Job Title: Electro Mechanical Maintenance TechnicianJob DescriptionThis role is responsible for maintaining all plant equipment in proper operating condition by applying preventive maintenance programs, correct maintenance procedures, and safe workplace practices throughout the facility. The Electro Mechanical Maintenance Technician troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electrical equipment required to efficiently process product, ensuring reliable operation of production, packaging, and processing machinery. Responsibilities • Perform both planned preventive maintenance and unplanned corrective maintenance on production, packaging, and processing equipment to ensure optimal machinery performance and minimal downtime. • Respond promptly to emergency breakdown situations and carry out effective repairs to restore equipment to safe operating condition. • Inspect machines and equipment to locate mechanical and electrical problems, replace defective parts, and make necessary adjustments to sustain continuous production operations. • Use a variety of hand and power tools to remove, install, replace, rebuild, repair, and test parts and components on plant and production equipment. • Troubleshoot and maintain diverse equipment including motor controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), refrigeration systems, mixers, conveyors, sensors, printers, and packaging equipment. • Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, electrical schematics, service manuals, and work orders to perform required maintenance and service accurately. • Complete all assigned work orders in a timely manner while maintaining high quality standards and adherence to maintenance best practices. • Maintain clear communication with other departments, management, and employees to notify them of equipment problems or concerns that may impact production efficiency. • Accurately complete all required paperwork, ensuring documentation is clear, legible, and in full compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs). • Apply a continuous improvement mindset by identifying opportunities to enhance equipment reliability, streamline processes, and improve maintenance effectiveness. • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices to support food safety and maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe work area. • Adhere to required safe work practices, including lockout/tagout procedures, appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe chemical handling, and use of fall restraints where necessary. • Correctly handle chemicals and dry materials with potential hazards, following all safety guidelines and training. • Operate material handling equipment, including stand-up and sit-down forklifts, safely and efficiently as part of maintenance and repair activities. • Perform physically demanding tasks such as standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds for extended periods during the shift. Essential Skills • High school diploma or GED preferred, with formal engineering or maintenance training desired. • Minimum of two years of experience in a maintenance role within a manufacturing facility, preferably in the food and beverage industry. • At least two years of experience in one or more technical areas such as electrical, mechanical, PLC, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, computer-controlled equipment, or HVAC systems. • Minimum of two years of experience with lubricating, cleaning, materials handling, motor control, relay control, process control, and packaging equipment. • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair both mechanical and electrical industrial equipment, including PLC troubleshooting and motor control systems. • Ability to inspect equipment, recognize potential problems, and independently take appropriate corrective action to prevent component failures or equipment downtime. • Proven capability to evaluate, repair, and operate production and warehouse equipment, including the ability to change, maintain, and repair machinery. • Welding skills and proficient use of hand and power tools to repair and maintain equipment and perform a wide range of maintenance functions. • Ability to accurately add, multiply, and divide using standard units of measure, and to read and follow written and verbal instructions. • Basic computer skills with accurate data entry abilities for completing work orders and maintenance records. • Skilled operation of stand-up and sit-down forklifts in a production or warehouse environment. • Physical ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and to perform repetitive grasping, manipulation, and operation of machinery and tools. • Visual acuity including close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to distinguish color for safe equipment operation and accurate inspections. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Professional experience with ammonia refrigeration systems is preferred. • Experience working in a food manufacturing environment with exposure to Good Manufacturing Practices and food safety standards. • Comfort working with variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, printers, conveyors, mixers, and packaging equipment. • Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation. • Ability to maintain clear, legible, and accurate maintenance documentation in alignment with SOPs. • Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed to support production demands. • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with production teams and management. • Commitment to continuous improvement and openness to contributing ideas that enhance processes and equipment reliability. Work EnvironmentThis position operates in a standard production environment with regular exposure to noise, humidity, and temperature changes, including occasional work outdoors when maintenance requires it. The scheduled shift runs Friday through Sunday on second shift, typically between 4–5 p.m. and 4–5 a.m., with the expectation of flexibility for overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed. Products manufactured in the facility may contain peanuts and tree nuts, and employees follow strict Good Manufacturing Practices and safety protocols. The role involves frequent operation of machinery and material handling equipment such as forklifts, and extensive use of hand and power tools, electric meters, and other maintenance instruments. Physical demands include prolonged standing and walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching vertically and horizontally, and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds for much of the shift. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in designated areas, and all work is performed in accordance with lockout/tagout procedures, safe chemical handling guidelines, and other established safety standards. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of East Brunswick, NJ. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $40.00/hr.
