About this role
Position Summary Traphagen School is seeking dependable, student-centered individuals to serve as Lunch Monitors. This position is responsible for providing active supervision of students for 3 hours a day, during lunch periods and outdoor recess while maintaining a safe, orderly, and positive school environment. This is an all-weather position, requiring the ability to supervise students outdoors in varying weather conditions throughout the school year. Essential Responsibilities Cafeteria Supervision
• Actively supervise students during lunch periods to ensure a safe, orderly, and respectful environment.
• Monitor student behavior and reinforce school expectations and positive conduct.
• Assist students as needed while encouraging independence and appropriate social interactions.
• Maintain clear aisles, orderly seating, and appropriate noise levels.
• Observe and promptly report any safety concerns, medical issues, accidents, or disciplinary incidents to administration.
• Support efficient transitions into and out of the cafeteria.
Recess Supervision
• Provide active supervision of students during outdoor recess in all weather conditions deemed appropriate for outdoor activities.
• Circulate continuously throughout assigned supervision areas to ensure student safety.
• Facilitate positive student interactions and encourage inclusive play.
• Address minor conflicts using positive behavior management strategies and refer significant concerns to administration.
• Enforce school safety rules and playground expectations.
• Monitor playground equipment and report any unsafe conditions immediately.
• Ensure students transition safely and efficiently back into the building following recess.
General Responsibilities
• Maintain constant visual supervision of assigned students at all times.
• Build positive, respectful relationships with students while serving as a positive role model.
• Follow all district policies and procedures related to student supervision, safety, emergency protocols, confidentiality, and child protection.
• Collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, school aides, and other support staff.
• Attend required meetings and trainings as directed by school administration.
• Perform other duties related to student supervision as assigned.
Qualifications
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous experience working with children in a school or youth setting preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to remain calm, professional, and responsive in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to actively supervise students while standing and walking for extended periods.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions throughout the school year.
• Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and professionalism.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to supervise students indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and student safety concerns.
• Ability to lift, bend, stoop, and perform duties associated with active playground supervision.
