About this role
HOURS PER DAY: 3-4 hours a day DAYS PER YEAR: 2-3 days a week REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
• Interest in working with educationally disadvantaged out-of-school youth
• Ability to effectively work with students of diverse backgrounds
• Good background in either Reading/Language Arts and/or Math
• Previous tutoring experience preferred but not required
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ability to work with individuals or small groups to facilitate learning
• Assist students in improving basic reading and/or math
• Partner with current adult education staff members for learning materials
• Be creative and flexible in meeting the needs of students and the adult education program
• College students are encouraged to apply
• Be punctual on scheduled tutoring days
Lawrence Education Center is part of the Brighter Futures Collaborative grant in partnership with the City of Springfield. This grant allows tutors to be hired to work with students struggling in specific learning areas, primarily Reading/Language Arts and Math; however, some tutoring may also be needed in Social Studies and Science. If you are strong in any of these 4 learning areas, LEC wants to talk to you!! Flexible scheduling is available, and LEC can work around college class schedules.
