This position is located at Bureau of the Fiscal Service, Post Payment Division. As a Clerical Assistant, you will perform work related to the mission of the organization by applying analytical methods and established procedures to complete work.

QualificationsYou must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your résumé. Specialized experience: For the GS-05, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes all of the following: - Utilizing computer systems to enter data entry of specialized records and prepare reports; AND - Maintain inventory and destruction of secured instruments and documents in compliance with retention guidelines; AND - Reviewing files or documents for completeness and compliance with established guidelines. OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Four (4) years of education above the high school level. (Please attach copy of transcript or list of college courses designating semester or quarter hours earned to ensure proper credit.) OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

Major DutiesAs a Clerical Assistant, you will: Perform standard and non-standard assignments involving different and unrelated processes in support of departmental goals, utilizing systems and processes associated with non-receipt claims. Input data to appropriate database or electronic application. Maintain databases and other applications as instructed by supervisor/lead. Provide miscellaneous office support such as answering and making calls, maintaining office files, routing mail by address or subject matter, conducting and copying materials for recurring and special purposes, operating standard office equipment, and preparing daily reports. Examine documents for completeness, discrepancies, sampling requirements, and other special requirements.RequirementsAll newly appointed employees to the competitive (or excepted) service are subject to a probationary (or trial) period. During this time, your performance, conduct, and suitability for continued employment will be evaluated. You will not automatically convert to permanent status at the end of the probationary (or trial) period. Your supervisor must affirmatively determine that continued employment is in the best interest of the Federal service. If no certification is made before the probationary (or trial) period ends, your appointment will be terminated. You are encouraged to actively engage with your supervisor, seek feedback, and understand role expectations. Additional guidance and support will be provided during onboarding. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Periodic reinvestigation is required no later than five years after selection and at least every succeeding five years. Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency. Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer. If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so. Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
