Job Title: GPS Dozer Operator – Heavy Civil ConstructionJob DescriptionThis role involves operating GPS-equipped dozers to perform precise fine grading and earthmoving activities on a major roadway expansion project in the Richmond, Virginia area. You will work on large heavy highway civil construction sites, using Trimble GPS systems and other heavy equipment to support earthworks and grading operations while maintaining high standards of safety, accuracy, and productivity. Responsibilities • Operate GPS-equipped dozers to perform precise fine grading and earthmoving tasks on heavy civil construction projects. • Use Trimble GPS systems to follow design plans and achieve accurate grades for roadway expansion and related earthworks. • Perform fine grading to meet specified tolerances for subgrade, slopes, and other sitework requirements. • Assist with general earthmoving, including cutting, filling, and shaping terrain according to project specifications. • Collaborate with site supervisors, engineers, and other heavy equipment operators to coordinate work and maintain efficient jobsite operations. • Conduct pre-operation and post-operation inspections of equipment to ensure safe and reliable performance. • Follow all site safety protocols, traffic control guidelines, and company procedures while operating heavy equipment. • Adapt to working on various project sites within the region, including New Kent, Chesterfield, and surrounding areas, and commute reliably to assigned locations. • Support other earthworks and civil construction activities as needed, including operating excavators if qualified. • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area around the equipment and jobsite. Essential Skills • Minimum of 4+ years of experience operating dozers or excavators in a construction environment. • At least 3+ years of experience in civil construction, preferably on heavy highway or large earthworks projects. • Proven GPS and fine grading experience, including the use of Trimble GPS systems on heavy equipment. • Strong proficiency in heavy equipment operation, including dozers and, ideally, excavators. • Ability to read and follow grade stakes, plans, and digital models when performing grading work. • Solid understanding of earthworks, grading, and heavy civil construction practices. • Capability to work safely on active construction sites and follow all safety rules and procedures. • Reliable transportation and willingness to commute to project sites in New Kent, Chesterfield, and the broader Richmond, Virginia area. • Physical ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions and terrain. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience working on large roadway expansion or heavy highway projects. • Prior work with reputable heavy civil contractors or similar large-scale construction firms. • Familiarity with additional heavy equipment such as excavators and other earthmoving machinery. • Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with supervisors and crew members. • Demonstrated dependability, strong work ethic, and commitment to quality workmanship. Work EnvironmentThis position is based on active heavy civil construction sites supporting a major roadway expansion project in the Richmond, Virginia region. Typical hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain. Current projects are located in New Kent, Chesterfield, and nearby areas, and you should be comfortable commuting to any of these locations. You will operate heavy equipment such as dozers and potentially excavators, including machines equipped with Trimble GPS technology, within a structured safety-focused environment. Appropriate construction attire and personal protective equipment are required at all times on site. Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of PROVDENCE FRG, VA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $57200.00 - $70720.00/yr.
