About this role

Job Title: PainterJob DescriptionThe Painter applies high-quality industrial coatings to trailers and equipment using a variety of tools and techniques. This role selects and mixes paints, operates spray guns and other mechanized coating equipment, performs touch-up work, and uses related shop equipment to support fabrication operations. The Painter follows job specifications and blueprints, maintains equipment through preventive maintenance, and contributes to a safe, clean, and efficient production environment.Responsibilities

• Select appropriate paint types and colors based on job order specifications and product requirements. • Mix paints using automated paint mixing equipment to achieve correct color, viscosity, and finish. • Operate hand-held spray guns and other mechanized painting or product coating equipment to apply industrial coatings to trailers and equipment. • Paint small items and perform touch-ups using brushes and other manual painting tools to ensure consistent finish quality. • Set up, operate, and use related equipment and tools, including forklifts, hoists, slings, portable and bench grinders, hand tools, and tape measures, as required for painting and preparation tasks. • Prepare surfaces for painting, which may include grinding, blasting, or sandblasting to remove contaminants and achieve proper adhesion. • Use and maintain paint booths and related ventilation or filtration systems in accordance with procedures and safety guidelines. • Perform inspections of painted surfaces to verify coverage, finish quality, and adherence to blueprints and work instructions. • Read, understand, and follow job order specifications, blueprints, work instructions, and procedures to complete work accurately and efficiently. • Maintain equipment in operational condition by completing preventive maintenance, following manufacturers’ instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs when needed. • Complete daily equipment and safety check sheets to document condition and readiness of tools and machinery. • Maintain a consistent level of work performance in accordance with established standards and job order requirements. • Participate in process and product development initiatives, contributing ideas to improve painting methods, quality, and efficiency. • Take part in improvement programs, cross-functional teams, and safety committees to enhance workplace safety and productivity. • Perform or assist in other assigned duties within the shop as qualified, supporting overall team output and workflow. • Maintain a safe working environment by following safety procedures, rules, and regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment. • Keep the work area clean and organized, including paint booths, equipment, and surrounding shop spaces. • Work collaboratively with fabrication and welding teams to support production schedules and ensure painted components are ready on time. • Communicate any issues related to paint quality, equipment performance, or safety concerns to appropriate personnel promptly. Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of industrial painting experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or similar environment. • Proficiency in operating hand-held spray guns and mechanized painting or coating equipment. • Ability to select and mix paints using automated paint mixing equipment to meet job specifications. • Experience with industrial painting processes, including surface preparation and application of coatings. • Competence in using grinders (portable and bench) for surface preparation and finishing. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, job orders, and work instructions. • Skill in using basic hand tools and measuring tools, including tape measures, in a fabrication or shop environment. • Understanding of paint booth operation and safe use of industrial painting facilities. • Knowledge of inspection practices to verify paint coverage and finish quality. • Ability to follow preventive maintenance procedures and troubleshoot basic equipment malfunctions. • Commitment to following safety rules, regulations, and procedures in an industrial setting. • Capability to maintain consistent work performance and meet production standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 1+ years of spray painting experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment. • 1+ years of grinding experience, with at least 6 months of hands-on grinding work in a shop setting. • Experience with blasting or sandblasting processes for surface preparation. • in industrial painting of trailers, equipment, or similar large fabricated components. • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-based fabrication or welding environment. • Attention to detail and pride in workmanship, ensuring high-quality finishes. • Willingness to participate in process improvement and safety initiatives. • Ability to adapt to a laid-back but production-focused fabrication shop culture. Painters collaborate closely with welders, who work in pairs to build chassis, and are part of a larger team of over 100 employees in the facility. The environment includes paint booths, spray guns, grinding equipment, blasting and sandblasting tools, forklifts, hoists, slings, hand tools, and measuring devices. Personal protective equipment is required, including hearing protection, safety glasses, safety boots with metatarsal guards, and face shields, with additional protection used as needed for spray painting and grinding activities. Work is performed in an industrial setting that emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and adherence to procedures, while maintaining a team-oriented and supportive atmosphere Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bridgman, MI. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
