What You'll Do As an Industrial Painter / Sandblaster, you'll support industrial coating and blasting operations while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. Key Responsibilities
• Perform power tool cleaning and surface preparation on pipes, structural steel, and other industrial components. • Prepare surfaces using hand tools such as scrapers and sandpaper to ensure coating readiness. • Operate power tools including grinders and orbital sanders to achieve required surface profiles and cleanliness standards. • Support sandblasting operations by: • Pulling blast lines • Filling blast pots • Fueling compressors • Maintaining workflow efficiency
• Support industrial painters by: • Pulling paint lines • Moving work lights • Assisting with setup and cleanup activities
• Apply industrial coatings, including epoxy and urethane products, using brush and roller techniques. • Perform masking using tape, paper, and other materials to ensure clean coating lines and professional finishes. • Follow all site-specific safety procedures and PPE requirements, including respirator protocols. • Participate in on-the-job training, mentorship, and continuous skills development. • Communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members regarding work progress, safety concerns, and project needs. • Arrive at site prepared and ready to work each day in a fast-paced industrial environment. Required Qualifications Must-Have Experience & Skills
• Minimum 2 years of industrial painting and/or sandblasting experience in industrial environments. • Experience with power tool cleaning and surface preparation. • Proven ability to apply industrial coatings using brush and roller methods. • Knowledge of epoxy and urethane coating systems. • Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools, including grinders and orbital sanders. • Strong communication and teamwork skills. • Reliable transportation with the ability to travel to the work site daily. • Ability to perform physically demanding work in an industrial refinery environment. • Ability to work full-time hours and overtime as required. Required Certifications
• Current WHMIS Certification • Current Fall Protection / Fall Arrest Certification • Completed Respirator Fit Test • Must be able to remain clean shaven to maintain an effective respirator seal Preferred Qualifications The following are considered strong assets:
• Additional industrial painting and blasting experience. • CSTS or CSTS-20 certification. • Additional refinery or industrial safety certifications. • Experience supporting both painters and sandblasters on industrial projects. • Apprenticeship experience in industrial painting or protective coatings. • Experience working in a unionized environment. • Exceptional attention to detail in masking, surface preparation, and coating application. • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing training and safety development. Work Environment & Schedule Location Industrial refinery sites in Burnaby, BC Schedule
• Monday to Friday • Five 10-hour shifts per week • Friday paid at overtime rates • Typical shift: 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM • Includes: • 15-minute morning break • 30-minute lunch break • 15-minute afternoon break
Working Conditions This role involves working in industrial refinery environments with exposure to:
