Job Title: WelderJob DescriptionThis role focuses on MIG welding trailer components using a variety of welding processes while maintaining high standards of safety, precision, and quality. You will prepare and align parts, perform welds on carbon steel, inspect completed work for defects, and ensure all work orders meet established quality requirements. You will also keep your workstation and equipment organized, clean, and in proper working condition. Responsibilities • Use MIG welding techniques to weld trailer components, including gas metal arc, plasma arc, and shielded metal arc processes on carbon steel materials. • Safely set up, use, and operate welding gear and related equipment in accordance with safety procedures and best practices. • Examine workpieces for defects, blemishes, and overall quality, promptly report any concerns, and perform necessary repairs. • Use measuring tapes, combination squares, and levels to lay out, position, align, and secure parts accurately before assembly. • Monitor fitting, burning, and welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion, or unwanted expansion of materials. • Sign off on completed work orders to confirm accuracy, completeness, and quality of work performed. • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation, including regular cleaning and basic care of welding equipment. • Participate in welding and fabrication tests as part of ongoing skills verification, including flat, vertical downhill, and overhead welds. • Collaborate with supervisors and team members during interviews, testing, and training to support continuous improvement and development. Essential Skills • Proficiency in MIG welding, including gas metal arc, plasma arc, and shielded metal arc processes. • Ability to perform quality welds on carbon steel, including flat, downhill vertical, and overhead welds. • Strong ability to read and use a standard tape measure accurately down to 1/16 of an inch (without easy readers or modified tapes). • Skilled in using measuring tools such as tape measures, combination squares, and levels to lay out and align parts. • Capability to monitor welding parameters, including wire speed and voltage, to achieve desired weld quality (such as approximately 700 wire speed at 24.5 volts with 0.035 bare wire). • Attention to detail in inspecting workpieces for defects and ensuring consistent quality standards. • Commitment to following safety procedures when operating welding gear and equipment. • Ability to maintain an organized, clean, and safe workstation in a fabrication and welding environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Comfort working with custom-fabricated products, such as specialized trailer components. • Willingness to participate in a multi-step hiring process, including fabrication testing, interviews with HR and supervisors, and welding tests. • Interest in ongoing training and development supported by supervisors and cross-department collaboration. • Ability to work flexible schedules, including A and B (weekend) shifts, as required by production needs. Work EnvironmentThe work environment is a hands-on fabrication and welding setting where each trailer is custom built, requiring precision and attention to detail. Candidates complete a structured weld test and interview process that includes a fabrication test to read a standard tape measure down to 1/16 of an inch, an interview with HR and a supervisor, and a welding test on carbon steel involving flat, downhill vertical, and overhead welds. Welding parameters may include a wire speed around 700 at 24.5 volts with 0.035 bare wire. The facility is not climate-controlled, but the team actively supports comfort with chilled beverages, ice cream, and popsicles during hot weather. Work is organized into A and B (weekend) shifts, with the weekend B shift consisting of three 12-hour days from Friday to Sunday. Weekend employees receive a shift differential for each hour worked, an attendance incentive that adds extra paid hours when they arrive on time and complete their full shifts, and overtime pay for hours beyond 36 when attendance requirements are met. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Louisville, TN. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
