Job Title: Grounds SupervisorJob DescriptionThe Grounds Supervisor coordinates and oversees all aspects of campus grounds care to ensure that outdoor spaces remain attractive, safe, and welcoming for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This hands-on role plans seasonal landscaping, directs daily work assignments, manages irrigation systems, and maintains strong relationships with vendors while upholding high standards of safety, quality, and customer service.Responsibilities
• Coordinate and assign daily work schedules for grounds staff to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently and on time. • Develop and implement seasonal landscaping plans that enhance the appearance and usability of campus outdoor spaces. • Oversee landscape and turf maintenance, including mowing, trimming, planting, pruning, and general grounds upkeep. • Manage irrigation systems, including scheduling, monitoring performance, and arranging repairs to ensure healthy plant and turf conditions. • Ensure compliance with safety standards and risk prevention practices in all grounds operations, including proper use of equipment and materials. • Supervise the operation, maintenance, and safe use of grounds equipment and tools, arranging repairs or replacements as needed. • Plan workforce needs and schedules to align staffing levels with seasonal and operational demands. • Maintain effective relationships with external vendors, including coordinating services, monitoring performance, and addressing issues as they arise. • Provide responsive and professional customer service to campus stakeholders, addressing grounds-related concerns and requests promptly. • Use administrative and organizational skills to maintain records, track work completion, and support efficient grounds operations. • Utilize basic Microsoft Office tools to create schedules, reports, and documentation related to grounds activities. • Identify and resolve problems related to grounds maintenance, equipment, or irrigation systems in a timely and effective manner. • Support facility management by coordinating grounds work with other facilities activities to minimize disruption to campus operations. Essential Skills
• Proven experience in facilities maintenance with a focus on grounds and outdoor environments. • Strong knowledge of landscape maintenance and turf care practices. • Hands-on experience with irrigation system management, including operation, monitoring, and basic troubleshooting. • Demonstrated ability in team leadership and supervision, including assigning work and overseeing performance. • Experience with safety compliance and risk prevention in a grounds or facilities setting. • Ability to operate and maintain grounds equipment and tools safely and effectively. • Scheduling and workforce planning skills to align staffing with operational needs. • Strong problem-solving skills and a customer service mindset when working with campus stakeholders. • Vendor management experience, including coordinating and overseeing contracted services. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office for basic administrative tasks and documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications
• Experience in landscape architecture or horticulture is beneficial for planning and enhancing campus landscapes. • Facility management exposure, particularly in a campus or multi-facility environment, is an advantage. • Strong administrative skills, including record-keeping, documentation, and basic reporting. • Ability to collaborate effectively with other facilities and campus departments. Work conditions include exposure to varying weather, seasonal changes, and physical activity such as walking, lifting, and operating equipment in an open campus environment. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Los Angeles, CA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $33.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
