Job Title: Shipyard LaborerJob DescriptionThe shipyard laborer supports marine trades personnel aboard U.S. Navy vessels by performing firewatch during hot work operations, setting up and cleaning work sites, and assisting with maintenance and repair activities. This role involves regular lifting, ladder climbing, and work in confined spaces to help ensure safe, efficient shipyard operations. Responsibilities • Perform firewatch duties in support of hot work, monitoring work areas to help maintain a safe environment. • Set up work sites by gathering materials, tools, and equipment needed for shipyard tasks. • Clean up work sites after tasks are completed, ensuring areas are orderly and free of debris. • Lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. • Climb up and down ladders frequently to access different areas of vessels and work platforms. • Work in confined spaces aboard U.S. Navy vessels while maintaining safety and awareness of surroundings. • Provide hands-on assistance to marine trades personnel, acting as an extra set of hands during maintenance and repair activities. • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively as directed by skilled trades personnel. • Follow all shipyard safety procedures, including hot work and fire safety guidelines. • Communicate clearly with team members to coordinate tasks and respond promptly to instructions. Essential Skills • Experience performing general labor duties in an industrial or shipyard environment. • Ability to serve as firewatch during hot work operations, maintaining focus and awareness of safety conditions. • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. • Comfort working in confined spaces aboard vessels. • Ability to climb ladders repeatedly during the workday. • Basic proficiency using hand tools safely. • Basic proficiency using power tools under supervision. • Eligibility for DBIDS (ITAR) access to work aboard U.S. Navy vessels and within secure shipyard areas. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Prior shipyard experience supporting marine trades personnel. • Familiarity with hot work, fire safety practices, and industrial safety procedures. • Experience assisting with maintenance and repair tasks in a maritime or industrial setting. • Strong teamwork skills and willingness to take direction from skilled trades personnel. • Reliable work ethic with the ability to perform physically demanding tasks throughout the shift. Work EnvironmentThis role is based in an active shipyard environment aboard U.S. Navy vessels, involving indoor and outdoor work in industrial conditions. You will regularly lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces. The position requires comfort around hot work activities, hand tools, and power tools, as well as adherence to strict safety and access procedures, including DBIDS (ITAR) eligibility. Work attire typically includes durable work clothing and appropriate personal protective equipment suitable for shipyard and industrial settings. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Seattle, WA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
