About this role

Job Title: General Construction Job DescriptionThis role focuses on repairing, refurbishing, and preparing trailer units in a shop environment to meet customer specifications. You will perform a wide range of hands-on tasks, including drywall, flooring, painting, and general maintenance work, while supporting safe and efficient operations in a small, collaborative team setting.Responsibilities

• Remove existing drywall from trailers and install new drywall according to the layout required for the next job site. • Use basic hand and power tools safely and effectively to complete daily tasks. • Operate a spray gun to paint the interior and exterior of trailers to required standards. • Tear out existing flooring and install new laminate or tile flooring based on customer needs. • Document completed work on each trailer using a paper-based tracking system to ensure accurate records. • Use a forklift to move or lift materials and trailers around the yard when needed and when a designated operator is not available, following all safety procedures. • Clean windows, blinds, doors, floors, and walls when components do not need replacement, ensuring units are clean and presentable. • Assist with general shop maintenance and repairs, supporting HVAC, plumbing, electrical, framing, and construction-related tasks as needed. • Follow safety guidelines and maintain a clean, organized work area. • Collaborate with other technicians and support team members to complete units on schedule. Essential Skills

• Hands-on maintenance or "handy" skills gained in roles such as apartment maintenance, general repair, or similar work. • Experience using basic hand tools and power tools in a construction, maintenance, or shop environment. • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot and perform general repairs. • Experience working in manufacturing or a general shop helper role. • Ability to assist with HVAC, plumbing, maintenance, repair, electrical, framing, and construction tasks as needed. • Ability to learn and follow instructions (coachable) and adapt to different types of repair work. • Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship. • Comfort working in a physically demanding role and willingness to get dirty while performing tasks. • Ability to accurately document work using a paper-based system. Additional Skills & Qualifications

• EPA Universal or exposure to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and construction work is beneficial, though not required. • No specific certifications or licenses are required for this role. • Experience operating a forklift is a plus. • Previous experience in a construction, repair, or trailer refurbishment environment is an advantage. The role is hands-on and shop-based, involving regular use of hand tools, power tools, spray painting equipment, and, at times, forklifts. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the expectation of working additional hours during the spring and summer when workload increases significantly. The work involves physical labor, exposure to construction materials, and an environment where getting dirty is part of the job, while maintaining a focus on safety and teamwork. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
