CNC Mill Machinist Job DescriptionThis role focuses on setting up, programming, and operating CNC milling machines in a job shop environment to produce high-quality, custom parts. You will work with Fanuc-controlled machines, perform complex machining on large blocks, weldments, and plate work, and ensure all components meet precise blueprint specifications through thorough quality checks.Responsibilities
• Set up and operate CNC milling machines, typically running one machine at a time. • Work with Fanuc-controlled equipment including Makino, Doosan, YCM, and HAAS mills, including 3-axis and 4-axis configurations. • Machine large blocks, weldments, and plate work according to detailed prints and engineering specifications. • Interpret and accurately read blueprints, including dimensions, tolerances, and machining symbols, to produce parts to specification. • Perform 3-D machining operations using appropriate programs and tooling. • Program CNC mills using Mastercam, including creating, editing, and optimizing toolpaths. • Apply and adjust G and M codes as needed to refine programs and machining processes. • Adjust speeds and feeds during machining to optimize quality, tool life, and cycle times. • Select, install, and change tooling as required for each job, ensuring proper tool offsets and setup. • Drill and tap holes to specified sizes and depths using appropriate tooling and machining techniques. • Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools to perform in-process and final quality inspections. • Conduct visual inspections to identify defects, verify finishes, and ensure parts conform to specifications. • Use digital and standard manual micrometers and other measuring instruments to check tolerances. • Utilize basic computer skills to track the progress of parts, update job information, and maintain accurate records. • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot machining issues and improve processes. • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all shop safety procedures. Essential Skills
• At least 3 years of machining experience in a job shop environment. • Proven experience running CNC mills in a custom or job shop setting. • Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC milling machines independently. • Proficiency programming CNC mills using Mastercam (any version). • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings. • Ability to read and work with tight tolerances using micrometers, calipers, and gauges. • Strong knowledge of adjusting speeds and feeds and changing tooling based on material and part requirements. • Experience with Fanuc controls on CNC mills. • Ability to perform 3-axis and 4-axis milling operations. • Competence using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges for quality checks. • Capability to perform drilling and tapping operations on CNC mills. • Basic computer literacy to document and track part progress. Additional Skills & Qualifications
• Experience operating HAAS mills and familiarity with HAAS controls. • Experience in 3-D machining and complex contouring. • Exposure to 5-axis machining is a plus. • Experience with horizontal and vertical milling machines. • Familiarity with CNC lathes and lathe machining processes. • Knowledge of CAM and CAD/CAM software, including Mastercam and other similar tools. • Experience with AutoCAD or similar CAD software. • Understanding of G and M code programming and editing. • Experience with boring mills and horizontal boring mills. • Strong understanding of machining fundamentals, including speeds, feeds, and tooling selection. • Ability to work on a variety of parts for multiple industries in a job shop environment. • Willingness to participate in cross-training and apprenticeship-style learning opportunities. The shop operates on a first-shift schedule, typically Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with flexibility on start times as long as weekly hours are met. Team members generally work 50 to 55 hours per week. The facility is air conditioned, clean, and well-maintained, providing comfortable working conditions and amenities such as coffee. The environment is focused on precision machining using CNC mills with Fanuc controls, and offers opportunities to work with a range of technologies and equipment in a professional, supportive shop setting. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Toledo, OH. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
