The position may start on a contract basis with the potential to extend depending on internal hiring processes.Responsibilities
• Operate a propane sit-down counterbalance forklift for approximately 80% of the shift to load and unload trailers in a busy LTL cross-dock environment. • Handle a wide variety of freight, including small to large and heavy shipments, with different shapes and sizes, ensuring safe and secure movement at all times. • Work efficiently in tight quarters, turning sharp corners and maneuvering around staged product and other forklifts while maintaining safety standards. • Use paper shipping documents to verify that all products are loaded and unloaded accurately and according to shipment requirements. • Adapt to and use complex digital shipping software as the facility transitions from paper-based to digital systems over the next few months. • Stage freight on the dock in the correct locations to support efficient inbound and outbound truck movements. • Perform repetitive lifting of items up to 50 pounds and complete handbombing tasks as required to move freight on and off trailers. • Maintain awareness of surroundings and follow all safety procedures in a fast-paced environment with multiple forklifts and trucks operating simultaneously. • Work independently during the graveyard shift, taking initiative to complete tasks and support overall dock productivity. • Communicate clearly with drivers, coworkers, and supervisors in English to coordinate freight movement and resolve issues as they arise. Essential Skills
• Minimum 1 year of experience operating a sit-down counterbalance forklift (SDCB) with loading and unloading trailers as the primary job duty in an LTL environment. • Valid forklift certification or ticket. • Ability to safely operate a propane sit-down counterbalance forklift in tight quarters and high-traffic dock areas. • Good computer skills and willingness to learn and use complex digital shipping software. • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly and perform handbombing as required. • Valid work permit for at least 12 months, if applicable. • Ability to work the graveyard shift schedule from Sunday night through Thursday night. • Strong English communication skills for effective coordination and safety. • Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume cross-dock environment with multiple doors and continuous truck movements. • Willingness to complete any required pre-employment checks. Why Work Here? You join a fast-paced, growth-oriented operation that offers strong benefits and long-term career potential. While on contract, you have access to medical and dental coverage, providing security from day one. The dock features more than 50 doors, with product staged across the dock and multiple forklifts moving at a safe but brisk pace. You will handle a wide range of products, from fridges to tires and various other freight types, in a setting where efficiency and safety are both critical. The dock can be cold, so layering clothing is important for comfort. Handbombing is a regular part of the job, especially for freight that cannot be moved solely by forklift.
