About this role

Job Title: Industrial PainterJob DescriptionThe Industrial Painter accurately estimates material requirements, prepares and restores surfaces, and applies a variety of industrial coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment. This role focuses on painting heavy steel components in a fabrication, machining, and assembly environment, ensuring high-quality finishes and adherence to safety and cleanliness standards. Responsibilities • Estimate the quantity of paint and coating materials required by measuring surfaces or reviewing work orders. • Remove existing paint and coatings using methods such as wire brushing, water or sand blasting, sanding, or applying solvents or heat to strip surfaces. • Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, filling nail holes and cracks, and sanding rough spots to achieve a smooth finish. • Apply liquid coatings such as paint, stain, or varnish to metal and wood surfaces using brushes, rollers, or spray guns. • Apply undercoat primers or sealers prior to painting to ensure proper adhesion and durability of the finish. • Use premixed paints or mix colors and pigments with oil, thinners, and drying additives to match specified colors and finishes. • Perform sandblasting and apply industrial coatings appropriate for heavy steel and industrial components. • Create specialty finishes that are sponged, ragged, layered, or otherwise textured as required by specifications. • Operate overhead cranes and other material-handling equipment to safely move heavy steel parts during the painting process. • Read and interpret blueprints or work instructions to understand job specifications and required finishes. • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively in support of paint preparation and application tasks. • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all safety procedures and guidelines. • Collaborate with the shift lead and team members to coordinate workflow and meet production deadlines. • Identify surface or coating issues, analyze root causes, and either resolve them or seek guidance from a supervisor. • Manage time effectively to complete assigned work within expected timelines and production schedules. Essential Skills • At least 1 year of industrial painting experience, preferably in an industrial environment (not residential or commercial construction painting). • Experience using spray equipment and spray guns for industrial painting applications. • Specific experience in a heavy steel fabrication, machining, or assembly environment is highly desirable. • Ability to work with heavy steel components and operate overhead cranes safely. • Knowledge of basic tools and equipment used in paint preparation and application, and understanding of their proper use. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work orders to follow specifications accurately. • Strong communication skills to read, write, listen, and speak clearly with individuals at various levels. • Interpersonal skills to work collaboratively and cooperatively with coworkers and supervisors. • Time management skills to productively complete work and meet all expected deadlines. • Organizational skills to plan and coordinate work in a logical and efficient manner. • Analytical skills to identify problems, evaluate options, and determine appropriate solutions or seek advice when needed. • Problem-solving skills to methodically and logically work through technical and process-related issues. • Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination to perform detailed painting and surface preparation tasks. Additional Skills & Qualifications • More than 1–2 years of industrial painting experience, including 3–5 years of experience with industrial coatings, is an asset. • Experience with sandblasting and applying a wide range of industrial coatings on metal and wood surfaces. • Familiarity with applying specialty finishes such as sponged, ragged, and layered effects. • Comfort working with heavy steel, overhead cranes, and related industrial equipment. • Ability to adapt to multiple schedule options, including day, evening, and weekend shifts. • Strong commitment to safety, cleanliness, respect, and results in the workplace. • Interest in ongoing personal growth, apprenticeship, and career advancement opportunities. Work EnvironmentThis is an industrial painting role focused on heavy steel components in a fabrication, machining, and assembly environment, using overhead cranes, spray equipment, hand tools, and power tools. The facility emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and respect, with clear processes and results-driven operations. Work is performed on either evening or day shifts: the evening shift typically runs Monday to Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., while day shifts run either Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday from approximately 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Multiple schedule options and shorter work weeks are available, and night shifts include a wage premium. The environment is industrial and hands-on, with a focus on proper technique and equipment usage specific to industrial painting rather than residential or commercial construction painting. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Langley, BC. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $32.00 - $36.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
