Job summary
We are looking for a proactive and detail-focused Communications Assistant to support the
delivery of accurate, timely and engaging communications. As a communications assistant you will provide communications support for a number of work areas and deliver a broad range of communications activity for NHS Employers.
Working as part of a Level 4 apprenticeship programme, you'll work as part of a team to ensure that we are engaging and communicating effectively with our members and partners, promoting our work and key messages. Your role will include drafting content for our communications channels, project-managing product launches, campaigns, resources and events.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys writing, simplifying complex messages and working collaboratively to inform, influence and engage target audiences. You'll contribute to campaign planning and delivery, assist with reputation management and support messaging across channels while developing technical and professional skills on the job.
Main duties of the job
As a Communications Assistant, you will:
Create engaging content for a range of channels, helping to promote NHS Employers' work and key messages to members, partners and stakeholders.Support campaigns, events and product launches, assisting with planning, coordination and delivery to ensure successful communications outcomes.Simplify complex information, turning technical or detailed content into clear, accessible and engaging messages for different audiences.Develop your communications expertise through a Level 4 apprenticeship programme, gaining hands-on experience in media, digital communications, reputation management and stakeholder engagement.

Work alongside communications managers and programme teams to support communications activity that raises awareness of organisational priorities among key audiences.With guidance and support, research, draft and edit content for a range of channels, including, press releases, bulletins, websites, social media, blogs and internal communications.Develop an understanding of how to tailor messaging and tone of voice for different audiences, platforms and communication objectives.Support the planning, scheduling and delivery of communication campaigns and projects, helping ensure key messages reach the right audiences through appropriate channels.Create engaging and accessible content, with guidance on applying brand guidelines and organisational standards.Support the monitoring of digital channels, media coverage and campaign performance, helping to gather insights for evaluation and report on reach, engagement and impact.Assist in maintaining content libraries, mailing lists and contact databases in line with organisational policies and data protection requirements.Build confidence in working with colleagues and stakeholders across the organisation, developing positive relationships that support effective communications activity.Take ownership of your own development through the Level 4 Communications Assistant apprenticeship programme and applying learning in day-to-day work.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to tailor messaging and tone of voice for different formats and audiences.
Interest in storytelling, public relations and campaign delivery.
Good organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Desirable
Familiarity with social media platforms, content scheduling or publishing tools.
Some experience creating or editing content (for example a blog, podcast, student publication, social channel or campaign).
Some experience with graphic design tools like Canva, Infogram to create on-brand templates, visual assets and edit images for digital platforms.
Interest in the NHS and wider healthcare sector and current affairs.
