About this role

Job Title: CookJob DescriptionThis role supports daily kitchen operations by assisting with meal preparation, managing inventory and storage, coordinating schedules for the cooking team, and collaborating closely with the lead cook. The cook also works with local food banks to distribute surplus food and uses basic computer skills to document inventory needs and issues. Responsibilities • Assist with daily meal preparation, including food prep, cooking, and plating as needed. • Support batch cooking activities to ensure meals are prepared efficiently and on schedule. • Assist in inventorying and storing incoming food, supplies, and related materials. • Ensure all food storage areas remain clean, organized, and properly arranged according to safety and hygiene standards. • Move and lift stock, ingredients, and equipment as necessary, including items weighing up to 30 lbs. • Help schedule the cooking team and communicate schedule details clearly and in a timely manner. • Work directly with the lead cook to support menu execution, kitchen organization, and daily priorities. • Coordinate with food banks to manage any leftover food that may not be used, helping to minimize waste. • Order products and supplies needed for inventory and maintain appropriate stock levels. • Utilize a computer to document inventory issues, update records, and support basic kitchen administration. • Assist with dishwashing, cleaning, and general kitchen sanitation to maintain a safe and orderly work area. Essential Skills • Proven experience as a cook, line cook, or in a similar kitchen role. • Hands-on experience with food preparation and batch cooking. • Ability to perform dishwashing and cleaning tasks in a busy kitchen environment. • Basic computer skills to document and track inventory issues. • Ability to move and lift ingredients, stock, and equipment weighing up to 30 lbs. • Availability to work Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for a 12-week period. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience working in a structured kitchen environment or facility setting. • Comfort coordinating with external partners such as food banks. • Strong communication skills to support scheduling and collaboration with the cooking team. • Attention to detail in maintaining clean, organized storage and work areas. • Reliability and consistency in following schedules and completing assigned tasks. Work EnvironmentThe position is based at a facility in Gresham and follows a Tuesday through Saturday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for approximately 12 weeks. The role involves working in a commercial-style kitchen environment, handling food preparation, cooking, dishwashing, and cleaning tasks. You will regularly move and lift ingredients and equipment weighing up to 30 lbs and spend much of the day on your feet in an active, fast-paced setting. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Portland, OR. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
