About this role

Job summary This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly regarded support service and play a key role in supporting the Spiritual Care Coordinator and wider Family Support Team in delivering holistic support to patients, carers, visitors, staff and volunteers. Working collaboratively as a member of the Family Support Team, alongside social workers, bereavement practitioners and young people's service colleagues, you will support patients and those important to them through the provision of person-centred spiritual, pastoral and religious care that respects the beliefs, values and traditions of all individuals.

Main duties of the job The role offers the opportunity to develop and strengthen our spiritual care provision, with a particular focus on expanding the spiritual care offer to patients and families in community settings. The successful candidate will work in accordance with professional standards and best practice guidance for chaplaincy and spiritual care, including NHS England chaplaincy guidance, the Association of Hospice and Palliative Care Chaplains (AHPCC) guidelines and standards, and the Council of Professional Chaplains and Pastoral Carers (CPCPC) professional standards and competencies. You will also contribute to the planning and delivery of meaningful hospice events throughout the year, including Memorial Services, Remembrance Events and our much-valued Light up a Life programme, helping families, colleagues and communities to remember, reflect and find support.

About us St Gemmas Hospice is an independent Leeds-based charity and one of the leading hospices in the UK, providing expert care and support for local people with life-limiting and terminal illnesses. We offer care to patients, families and carers in the Hospices In-Patient Unit, through the St Gemmas community team, and at our Out-Patients.

The ability to communicate sensitively, build relationships, and work effectively with patients, families, volunteers, and colleagues is essential. Person Specification

Experience Essential

Experience relevant to the post of Spiritual Care worker. Collaboratively working within a multi-disciplinary setting and with external agencies Delivering training and education Experience in supporting people in times of emotional distress

Desirable

Supervision and support of colleagues/volunteers Care of terminally ill and bereaved individuals Working in a community setting Working in a health/social care setting

Qualifications Essential

Hold a full UK driving licence with no restrictions and have access to a reliable vehicle for work-related travel, with the ability to travel independently across the locality as required.

Desirable

Degree level or equivalent in subject related to the role Registered with the UKBHC & AHPCC member or willingness to become registered

Ability to manage own workload, prioritise and problem solve, excellent organisational and time management skills Demonstrable ability to support service development Confident in using a range of IT systems (SystmOne) software applications, and technology to support day-to-day work activities Competent in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams
