Job summary

Job SummaryWe are looking for a registered Mental Health Nurse with an interest in or experience of ADHD and neurodiversity to join our adult team. You will assess, plan and deliver care for adults presenting with ADHD, autism and co-occurring mental health needs, working across a caseload that reflects the full complexity of neurodivergent presentations.This post suits a nurse who understands neuroaffirmative, strengths-based approaches to care and who can support people to access diagnosis, treatment and ongoing support in a way that is respectful of neurodivergent identity. We welcome applications from nurses at all stages of their career, including those newly qualified with a keen interest in this area.

Main duties of the job Key Responsibilities

Undertake holistic mental health and neurodevelopmental assessments, including ADHD-specific screening and history-taking.

Develop, implement and review individualised care and treatment plans in collaboration with service users, families and carers.

Support and monitor pharmacological treatment for ADHD in line with NICE guidance and shared care protocols, working closely with prescribers.

Deliver psychoeducation on ADHD and neurodiversity to service users, families and carers.

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, liaising with psychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy and social care colleagues.

Support service users through transitions, including from CAMHS to adult services where relevant.

Maintain accurate, timely clinical records in line with NMC and Trust standards.

Contribute to service development, audit and quality improvement relating to neurodiversity pathways.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with current NMC registration. Experience of or a genuine interest in working with people with ADHD and/or neurodiversity. Sound understanding of, or willingness to develop knowledge of, ADHD assessment frameworks and NICE guidance (NG87). Experience of care planning, risk assessment and multidisciplinary team working. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Commitment to a neuroaffirmative, person-centred approach to care.

Desirable

An Independent/Supplementary Prescribing qualification would be highly beneficial and not mandatory but candidates working towards this, or willing to undertake the training, are also very welcome to apply. Additional training or qualification in ADHD assessment or autism awareness. Experience supporting transitions between children's and adult services. Experience delivering group psychoeducation sessions.

Qualifications Essential

RMN / RNMH registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), registration must be maintained throughout employment. Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to ADHD and neurodiversity.
