About this role

PROJECT ENGINEER – FEDERAL SITE CONSTRUCTION

Rapid City, SD • Onsite / Jobsite Based

Overview

Our client is a 100% employee-owned general contractor with a national reputation in commercial and federal construction — and they're currently running one of the busiest federal jobsites in their portfolio, with 6–7 concurrent projects for the US Army Corps of Engineers on-site right now.

This role has a front-row seat on high-profile federal work, embedded with a tight-knit project team working on some of the largest federal construction projects including air force bases, barracks, hangers, and more.

What You'll Do:

• Drive projects from pre-construction through closeout — supporting the Project Manager and Superintendent on schedule, budget, and documentation

• Read and interpret drawings and specifications, and keep project documentation airtight

• Manage the submittal process and schedules with subcontractors

• Create, track, and close out RFIs

• Schedule stakeholder meetings and distribute minutes

• Compile closeout packages — warranties, O&M manuals, and punchlist tracking

• Facilitate owner training and support permitting, inspections, and regulatory compliance

• Assist with quality control and warranty coordination

• Use MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams), Bluebeam (preferred), and construction management software daily

.

Compensation & Perks

• Full-time, Direct-hire, salary role

• Bonus: 15% project completion bonus — standard across the company

• Schedule: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, typically 45–50 hrs/week

• 100% Employee-Owned (ESOP): Vests after one year of full-time employment

• 401(k) with company match

• Full benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, HSA, Accident, Life/AD&D, Disability, and EAP

• PTO: Vacation and sick leave included

• Growth: 3–5 internal trainings per month and a company that is actively scaling into new markets — including international project exposure

• Culture: Tight-knit, relationship-driven crew that hires for character first — low-ego, solution-driven people who thrive under pressure and work well with government partners

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management (or equivalent work experience)

• Prior Project Engineer experience preferred or strong equivalent experience

• OSHA 30 certification (or ability to complete upon hire)

• Valid driver's license preferred

• Proficiency with MS Office; Bluebeam and construction management software experience a plus

• Federal/DOD or USACE construction experience a strong plus

• Must be a U.S. citizen and able to pass a background investigation and drug screening (federal project requirement)

• Willingness to travel up to ~25%

This is a full-time, onsite position based at the jobsite — it is not available as a remote or hybrid role. Our client does not provide visa sponsorship for this position; candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
