St Leonard's Hospice is recruiting a part-time Internal Communications Lead to ensure staff and volunteers are informed, engaged and aligned with the Hospices mission, strategy and values. This new role will join the Workforce, Education, Learning and Development (WELD) Team to reshape internal communications and play an important role in managing our Employer of Choice aspirations.

This is a part-time position based at our main hospice site, working 31 hours per week in office hours with some flexibility over days, start and end times. The salary for this role is £23,605.46 per annum pro rata (FTE £28,555) with future pay progression up to £25,905.25 per annum pro rata (FTE £31,337).

Main duties of the job

Your key duties will be to:

Work with the WELD Manager to develop and implement a clear and engaging internal communication plan Write internal messaging such as bulletins and newsletter, working with key stakeholders to get engaging content Utilise data insights to improve and enhance the effectiveness of internal communications

This is a hands on, practical role with real scope to grow, ideal for someone who enjoys organising, improving and shaping how information is shared.

Proven experience in communications in a similar role Excellent organisational and communication skills including good grammar and be able to communicate with all levels within the Hospice The ability to work in a fast paced and varied environment and adapt quickly to changing briefs

Working as part of the Workforce, Education, Learning and Development (WELD) Team, the Internal Communications Lead will ensure staff and volunteers are informed, engaged and aligned with the Hospice's mission, strategy and values. The role plays an important role in managing our Employer of Choice aspirations and supporting our employer brand working with all colleagues within the wider People team.

Main duties and responsibilities

Professional

1. Work with the WELD Manager to develop and implement a clear and engaging internal communications plan which includes both internal work and national celebration days.

2. Be proactive and respond to emerging and time-sensitive priorities in a professional and appropriate way.

3. Write bulletins and newsletters, working closely with key stakeholders to get engaging content which aligns to the Hospices priorities.

4. Work with the Communications Team to ensure consistency in tone of voice and message in both internal and external messaging.

5. Proactively identify staff and volunteer stories that capture SLHs impact which can be used for different audiences such as recruitment and wellbeing.

6. Support key stakeholders with internal messaging around projects, service changes, tailoring messaging for different audiences.

7. Work alongside key departments to assist with the managing of internal channels such as the Hospices intranet and notice boards to maximise user engagement.

8. Work with the WELD Manager to create and analyse appropriate surveys.

9. Utilise data insights to improve and enhance the effectiveness of internal communications. Explore new tools to improve reach and engagement.

10. Undertake project work to support staff engagement and satisfaction levels, including wellbeing.

Person Specification

Communication Essential

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including good grammar and the ability to translate messages into accessible plain English Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills Ability to communicate at all levels within the Hospice

Experience Essential

Proven experience in communications in a similar role Proven experience of successfully delivering communication campaigns Strong organisation and planning skills Ability to manage multiple priorities Strong copywriter Good attention to detail

Desirable

Experience of working in an internal communications role Experience of working in the charity or healthcare sector An interest in employee engagement and culture

Other requirements Essential

Be prepared to assist with Hospice fundraising activities

IT Essential

Strong IT skills Knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)

Desirable

Video skills, including the ability to film and edit

Qualifications Essential

Minimum education A Levels or equivalent Level 3 qualification

Desirable

Educated to degree level Communications or marketing qualification
