About this role

Job summary

Job Summary:

He/she will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care needs of a group of special care infants and their families without direct supervision.

He/she will provide a high standard of direct nursing care.

Supervision and support of junior and unqualified members of staff, assisting with their on-going development at all times.

The post holder will be an effective communicator, liaising closely with all service users in order to benefit the infant's well-being.

This is a development post, designed to provide an individual pathway to qualified Neonatal Nurse status.

Main duties of the job

To provide full care to High Dependency and Special Care infants and their family under the direction of qualified neonatal nurses. To participate in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care provided to individual infants and their families. To be an advocate to the neonate. To ensure that parents/carers achieve confidence with assistance and support to enable them to care for their baby in preparation for discharge. To ensure appropriate documentation of care in accordance with NMC guidelines. To safely administer prescribed medications and to monitor their effects. To ensure competency and safe maintenance of all medical devices within the sphere of responsibility. Respond to any adverse effects or deterioration in the baby's condition with appropriate degree of urgency and support the team when these situations occur. To manage child protection concerns promptly and sensitively according to departmental and Trust guidelines.

RN/RSCN/RM Ability to undertake specialist modules and demonstrate an interest in self development Experience working within the NHS and knowledge of the function of a Neonatal Unit.

Experience of working with parents, being partners in shared care of their child Able to work under pressure in an intensive and high stress environment Computer Literacy
