About this role

Position Title: Classroom Teacher (Grades 3–5) Position Summary: The Classroom Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth of students in Grades 3–5. The teacher delivers rigorous, standards-based instruction aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district curriculum, uses assessment data to inform instructional decisions, collaborates with colleagues and families, and fosters a classroom culture that promotes high expectations, student achievement, and responsible citizenship. Essential Responsibilities: Instruction and Curriculum

• Plan and deliver high-quality instruction in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Technology/Engineering, Social Studies, and Social-Emotional Learning aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.

• Implement district-adopted curriculum and instructional resources with fidelity.

• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of all learners, including students with disabilities, English learners, and students requiring enrichment or intervention.

• Utilize evidence-based instructional practices and a variety of teaching strategies, technology, and instructional materials to maximize student engagement and achievement.

• Foster critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, communication, and independent learning skills.

• Integrate digital literacy and responsible technology use into daily instruction when appropriate.

Assessment and Student Learning

• Assess student learning using formative, benchmark, and summative assessments.

• Analyze student performance data to monitor progress, identify instructional needs, and adjust instruction accordingly.

• Prepare students for state and district assessments through high-quality daily instruction aligned with grade-level standards.

• Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate achievement through report cards, conferences, and ongoing family communication.

• Participate in Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Student Support Team (SST), Individualized Education Program (IEP), and Section 504 processes as appropriate.

Classroom Environment

• Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, equitable, and inclusive learning environment.

• Develop consistent classroom routines, expectations, and procedures that maximize instructional time.

• Promote positive student behavior through proactive classroom management strategies and restorative practices.

• Support students' social-emotional development and encourage respectful relationships among peers.

• Ensure classroom environments reflect high expectations, cultural responsiveness, and student ownership of learning.

Collaboration and Communication

• Collaborate effectively with grade-level teams, special education staff, English learner educators, specialists, interventionists, counselors, and administrators to support student success.

• Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, classroom expectations, academic achievement, and school events using district-approved communication platforms.

• Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, curriculum development, and district professional development.

• Contribute positively to school improvement efforts and district initiatives.

Professional Responsibilities

• Maintain professional competence through ongoing professional learning and implementation of evidence-based instructional practices.

• Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, confidentiality, and reliability in accordance with district policies, Massachusetts educator standards, and applicable laws.

• Maintain accurate student records and complete required documentation in a timely manner.

• Supervise students during assigned duties, field trips, and other school-related activities.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.

• Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) teaching license in Elementary (Grades 1–6) or appropriate licensure.

• Knowledge of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and evidence-based instructional practices.

• Experience using assessment data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.

• Strong classroom management, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

• Commitment to fostering equity, inclusion, and belonging for all students.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to move throughout classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, and other school environments.

• Ability to supervise students in classroom, cafeteria, playground, and other school settings.

• Ability to lift, carry, and move instructional materials, classroom supplies, and educational equipment as needed.

• Ability to perform duties requiring standing, walking, bending, reaching, and occasional lifting consistent with classroom responsibilities.

Terms of Employment:

• School-year position in accordance with the district calendar and applicable collective bargaining agreement.

• Salary and benefits established by the School Committee and collective bargaining agreement.

• Evaluation conducted in accordance with the Massachusetts Educator Evaluation Framework and district procedures.
