*POSITION SUMMARY*
We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Health & Safety professional to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company's Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Management System.
During equipment installation, commissioning, and startup, this role will also act as the Owner's representative to oversee site safety, monitor contractor compliance with site safety requirements, and coordinate safety activities between contractors and plant operations. As manufacturing operations expand, the role will transition to leading the site's ongoing health and safety program, regulatory compliance, employee engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This is a stand-alone position serving as the primary OHS resource for the manufacturing facility and works closely with management, supervisors, employees, contractors, and regulatory agencies to promote a safe, compliant, and proactive safety culture.
*KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*1. Installation, Commissioning & Site SateyAct as the Owner's representative to oversee site safety during equipment installation, commissioning, and facility improvement activities.
* Conduct routine site safety inspections to monitor contractor compliance with company safety requirements and applicable legislation. * Identify unsafe conditions and unsafe work practices and communicate corrective actions to contractor supervisors. * Coordinate safety activities between contractors and plant operations. * Conduct or participate in commissioning risk assessments and pre- startup safety reviews (PSSR), where applicable. * Maintain contractor safety documentation and inspection records. * Escalate significant safety concerns to project management when necessary.
2. OHS Management System Development
Lead the development and implementation of the company's OHS Management System.
* Develop and maintain OHS policies, procedures, Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), standards, and supporting documentation. * Establish systems and processes for hazard identification, risk management, incident reporting and investigation, inspections, emergency preparedness, training, contractor safety management, and regulatory compliance. * Establish document control and health & safety record management processes. * Develop and maintain the OHS System and supporting documentation to ensure regulatory compliance, support internal audits, and prepare the organization for future Alberta COR certification and ISO 45001 certification. * Review and continuously improve the OHS Management System to ensure compliance with Alberta OHS legislation and industry best practices.
3. Operational Health & SafetyLead the implementation of the OHS Management System throughout manufacturing operations.
* Conduct workplace hazard assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), routine workplace inspections, and behavioural safety observations. * Identify physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic, and operational hazards, and develop appropriate risk control measures. * Monitor compliance with company safety policies, Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), PPE requirements, and applicable health and safety legislation. * Conduct workplace incident, injury, and near miss investigations, perform root cause analyses, and lead the implementation and verification of corrective and preventive actions. * Participate in health and safety risk assessments for new equipment, new processes, facility improvements, and operational changes. * Work collaboratively w
