Job summary
We are looking to appoint one full time substantive Consultant Breast Radiologist post based at the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust in replacement of our fixed term locum consultant post. The post includes programmed activities in symptomatic breast and general radiology. We can also support another subspecialty interest including paediatrics, head and neck, neurology, and cardiothoracic radiology.
The post has arisen because of expansion of the service. The successful candidate will join a team of 31 consultant radiologists to help deliver Diagnostic Imaging Services to the Trust and local commissioners. Candidates are required to have a subspecialty interest in Breast imaging and associated intervention.
There has been considerable recent investment in the department including the development of a dedicated Breast Unit on the New QEII Hospital site. This purpose-built unit opened in June 2015, deals with nearly 600 breast cancers annually. Currently there are 5 breast radiologists supporting 4 breast surgeons. There are 4 radiographers trained in mammography supported by 2 associate mammographer. We have two additional mammographer, one trained in performing breast ultrasound and one trained in stereotactic procedures.
Main duties of the job
The workload of the successful candidate would be approximately that recommended by the Royal College of Radiologists. There will be a minimum of 4 breast clinical sessions based on a full time job and remainder a mixture of general and other subspecialty. The successful candidate would also play a role in teaching and developing skill mix within the Unit and participate in the MDT meetings.

Person Specification
Qualifications/Training Essential
Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register College Membership (FRCR) or qualification of an equivalent level
Desirable
College Fellowship Postgraduate degree (or equivalent)
Previous Experience Essential
Broad range of experience in General Radiology in particular: oExperience of Breast Ultrasound, Breast Intervention, Plain film reporting, Mammography, Breast MRI, CT/US (general) oFully competent in General and Breast Radiology Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
