POSITION: Substitute Teacher CONTRACT YEAR: School Year (Call as Needed) SALARY: Daily Rate of Pay Commensurate with Education Level DEPARTMENT: Instruction START DATE: Rolling Hires (August–May) Direct Accountability and Report Works under the supervision of the School Principal, who is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school. The substitute teacher is responsible for implementing instructional plans, maintaining an effective learning environment, and supervising students during the absence of the classroom teacher. An annual classified evaluation will be based on the job description, division and personal goals and objectives specific to the position, and the performance of the Substitute Teacher. QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma required; associate degree or higher preferred.
• Virginia Postgraduate Professional License or other Virginia teaching license preferred.
• Prior experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred.
• Successfully complete a criminal background check, Child Abuse and Neglect Registry check, and any other pre-employment screenings required by Brunswick County Public Schools.
• Complete required Brunswick County Public Schools substitute training.
• Complete and sign the Brunswick County Public Schools Substitute Employee Agreement prior to accepting substitute assignments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher.
• Maintain a safe, orderly, and positive classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Supervise students throughout the school day, including assigned duties such as cafeteria, hallway, bus, or playground supervision.
• Take attendance and maintain accurate records as required by school procedures.
• Follow all school procedures, emergency protocols, and administrative directives.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding students and school operations.
• Communicate effectively with school administrators and staff regarding classroom activities and student concerns.
• Leave appropriate notes regarding instructional progress, student behavior, and completed assignments for the returning teacher.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.
