About this role
Position: Substitute Van Driver Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour SUMMARY Drives school van to safely transport students over specified routes according to a time schedule. Ensure the well-being of the students/passengers and other drivers. Complies with all federal, state and local traffic regulations, as well as district policies and procedures to provide a safe positive environment for all students and staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned.)
• Drives a school van safely and professionally, including during inclement weather
• Performs and properly completes daily pre-trip and/or post-trip inspections;
• Complies with all traffic regulations and ordinances;
• Complies with District and Transportation Department policies and procedures;
• Participates in District mandated training;
• Communicates in an appropriate fashion with students, parents and staff;
• Prepares reports or memos, as required;
• Assists students on/off the school van, including students with developmental or physical needs;
• Maintains order on the school van;
• Cleans school vehicles vans interior and exterior.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Shows proficiency in handling and maneuvering school van;
• Must have no points on driving record and able to pass physical including drug test and submit to random drug testing.
• Preferred: Experience driving school students
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
• Must have a valid Pa. Class C Driver's License.
• Must pass U.S.C. District Transportation Tests both written and driving skills.
• Must pass State Skill Test, State Written Test, Department of Transportation physical and Basic Training Program.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Ability to work in a professional and respectful manner with co-workers, parents and students.
• Ability to read and understand maps.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
• Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and policies.01-5
