Caritas Group Practice is a friendly, ambitious and progressive GP practice caring for approximately 8,000 patients across three sites in Halifax. We are seeking an exceptional Practice Manager to lead the day-to-day operational management of the practice, working closely with the GP Partners, clinical teams and wider staff to ensure the smooth, safe and efficient running of our services. Main duties of the job
The Practice Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure the effective day-to-day running of Caritas Group Practice across our three sites. Working closely with the GP Partners and the wider leadership team, you will oversee business operations, finance, workforce management, governance, compliance and service development, ensuring the practice delivers safe, high-quality and patient-centred care.
You will lead and support a multidisciplinary administrative team, foster a positive and inclusive working culture, and drive continuous quality improvement. The role also involves managing contracts, budgets and resources, maintaining regulatory compliance, and identifying opportunities for innovation and growth.
We are looking for an approachable, organised and proactive leader with excellent communication and problem-solving skills, who can build strong relationships with staff, patients and external stakeholders. Previous experience in primary care management or a similar healthcare leadership role is essential, along with the ability to manage change, motivate teams and deliver improvements in a fast-paced environment.

Job SummaryThe Practice Manager will provide effective leadership and operational management to ensure the smooth, safe and efficient delivery of services across Caritas Group Practice. Working closely with the GP Partners, clinical leads and wider multidisciplinary team, the post holder will play a key role in supporting the strategic direction of the practice, maintaining high standards of patient care and developing services to meet the changing needs of the local population.
The successful candidate will provide strong leadership to the practice team, ensuring effective workforce management, financial sustainability, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement. They will be responsible for creating a positive working culture where staff feel valued, supported and empowered to deliver excellent patient care.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership and Practice DevelopmentWork collaboratively with GP Partners and the leadership team to develop and deliver the practice vision, objectives and operational plans.
Identify opportunities for service improvement, innovation and growth.
Support the development of new models of care and collaborative working with the North Halifax Primary Care Network and other healthcare partners.

Operational ManagementOversee the day-to-day management of the practice, ensuring services run safely, efficiently and effectively across all sites.
Develop and maintain robust systems and processes to support high-quality patient care.
Monitor practice performance and implement improvements where required.
Ensure appropriate management of premises, equipment, facilities and practice resources.
Work with clinical and administrative teams to optimise workflow and improve patient experience.
Leadership and Workforce ManagementProvide effective leadership, support and guidance to administrative and non-clinical teams.

Maintain effective systems for risk management, health and safety, safeguarding and information governance.
Lead and support quality improvement initiatives.
Ensure practice policies and procedures are reviewed, updated and implemented effectively.

Person SpecificationThe successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership capability, excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities within a busy healthcare environment. They will be proactive, approachable and committed to delivering high-quality primary care services while supporting and developing the practice team.
Experience within primary care management, healthcare operations or a similar senior management environment is essential. The ability to build effective relationships, lead change and deliver improvements will be key to success in this role.

Experience Essential
Significant experience of working in a management or senior leadership role within primary care, healthcare or a similar complex organisation. Previous experience as a GP Practice Manager, Deputy Practice Manager or similar senior primary care leadership role. Experience of managing teams, including recruitment, induction, performance management and staff development. Experience of managing operational performance, improving services and implementing change. Experience of financial management, budget monitoring and resource planning. Experience of working with multiple stakeholders and building effective professional relationships. Experience of managing governance, compliance, risk and quality improvement processes.
Desirable
Understanding of workforce planning and new models of primary care delivery. Knowledge of SystmOne or other GP clinical systems. Commitment to ongoing professional development.
Qualifications Essential
Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in healthcare management, business administration, leadership or a related discipline. Evidence of relevant management or leadership training. Knowledge and understanding of NHS primary care systems, structures and contractual requirements. Knowledge of GP practice systems and processes.
Desirable
Formal qualification in healthcare management (e.g. ILM, CMI, NHS Leadership qualification or equivalent). Training or qualification in quality improvement, change management or project management.
