Manager of Occupational Health & SafetyPosition Type: TemporaryHours of Work: 35 hours / week (Full-time)Location: Confederation Building, St. John'sSalary: HL-21 ($74,093 - $96,321)Competition #: 2627-45848-01SSAs Manager of Occupational Health & Safety, you will join a provincial team of Occupational Health & Safety Managers committed to furthering NLSchools' goals for employee safety and wellness. Collectively the team will be responsible for the development, implementation and management of programs and services related to health and safety across the province. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources - Employee Safety and Wellness, the successful candidate will provide direction and support to staff in their region to ensure that all staff and worksites are compliant with the occupational health and safety program, policies and legislation.Duties:Providing guidance and support to employees on workplace safety and wellness;Responding to internal and external OHS inquires;Interpreting applicable legislation and collective agreements;Participating in the development, review and revision of the OHS program, policies, processes and procedures.Managing and coordinating standardized safety initiatives;Identifying training needs, coordinating training sessions and maintaining training records.Developing and conducting presentations, training sessions, safety talks, etc.Managing work-related injury and illness claims;Overseeing OHS committee compliance;Monitoring completeness and consistency in risk assessments.Monitoring completeness and consistency in investigations.Conducting investigations, worksite visits, and inspections;Conducting workstation assessments, providing recommendations, and where applicable, ordering equipment.Participating in the resolution process of OHS issues, concerns, orders and complaints.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Candidates for the position of Manager of Occupational Health & Safety should have considerable knowledge and experience in the areas of occupational health and safety. They must possess strong communication, facilitation, organizational, and analytical skills, and the ability to operate in a strategic and dynamic environment. They must also demonstrate effective leadership skills while exercising considerable independence and initiative. These qualifications would normally be acquired through the completion of a relevant post-secondary program supplemented by training/experience in occupational health and safety. Equivalencies may be considered.This position requires some travel throughout the region.
