Position: Accountant ILocation: Confederation Building - West Block, St. John'sDepartment of Education - NLSchoolsJob Status: Temporary Full-time to March 31, 2027 with the possibility of extension (35 hrs/week)Salary Scale: CG-29 ($27.61 - $30.67) - CUPE 1560 Collective AgreementCompetition #: 2627-45868-01SSThe successful candidates will be members of NLSchools Finance team, reporting to the Manager of Accounting & Accounts Receivable with a focus on corporate accounting.Range of Duties May Include:Reconciling and preparing monthly corporate bank accountsReconciling General Ledger accounts on a monthly basisPreparing quarterly and year-end financial working papers for financial statementsOverseeing day- to day functions of the financial activity of one small additional non-profit organization: NL Education Foundation Inc.Preparing/reconciling group insurance remittance on a quarterly basis as well as monthly HST remittanceCompleting pre-authorized debits (PADS) to withdraw funds from school accounts as necessaryPreparing/entering various complex journal voucher entriesAssisting in the development of accounting/financial policies and guidelinesOther duties as assignedQualifications:Completion of an undergraduate degree in Business with a specialization in accounting and 2 years experience in the accounting field, orCompletion of a three-year college Diploma in Business Administration with a concentration in financial accounting supplemented by 3-4 years experience in the accounting fieldKnowledge in accounting and Public Sector Accounting StandardsProficiency in Excel and technologyStrong oral and written communication skillsStrong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to work independently with minimum supervision are requiredKnowledge of Cayenta and applicable Legislation would be considered an assetAdditional Information:Flexible schedule (can start work day anytime between 7:30-9:00 am)Flexibility with working from home on occasion in unique circumstancesSeeking a candidate with a positive attitude who enjoys working within a strong team environmentAs an employee of NLESD, you will receive the Government of NL's benefits package which includes its defined-benefit public sector pension plan benefitApplications for this position will be accepted through the District online portal MYHRP at https://www.nlschools.ca/employment/index.jspClosing Date: Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 12:00 pmNLSchools is committed to employing a diverse workforce and encourages all qualified applicants to apply.
