New Coningsby Surgery is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Dispensary Apprentice to join our friendly and supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity to earn while you learn, gaining valuable experience within a busy GP dispensary while completing a fully funded apprenticeship programme.
No previous dispensary experience is required. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a genuine desire to provide excellent patient care.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you will receive full support from our experienced dispensary team while developing the knowledge and skills required to become a qualified Dispenser.
Main duties of the job
Working under supervision, you will learn to:
Prepare and dispense prescriptions safely and accurately.Receive, process and manage prescription requests.Respond professionally to patient enquiries both in person and over the telephone.Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.Order, receive and check pharmaceutical stock.Assist with stock control and monthly audits.Follow all dispensing procedures, health and safety requirements, and data protection legislation.Work closely with GPs, clinicians and the wider practice team to deliver an efficient dispensing service.Complete all apprenticeship coursework and attend training sessions as required.The apprenticeship programme will typically last 15 months and includes an End-Point Assessment (EPA).
Your working hours will be 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, between 08:00 and 18:30 on a rota basis. Flexibility is essential.
The successful applicant will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks, including references and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check where applicable.

Person Specification
Experience Essential
A genuine interest in healthcare and patient care. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Good organisational skills and attention to detail. Willingness to learn and complete the apprenticeship programme. Good IT skills and confidence using computer systems. Ability to work as part of a team. A driver with access to transport, as travel between practice sites is required.
Desirable
Previous customer service experience. Experience working in a healthcare, retail or pharmacy environment. GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths.
