Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties
• Removes and replaces track and track components.
• Inspect and repair rail lubricators.
• Clean Flangeways.
• Remove graffiti and garbage from alignment.
• Removes and replaces ballast.
• Corrects deviations in track surface, alignment and gauge.
• Observes condition of tracks, track beds, and track right of way to detect and report problems or defects.
• Installs and repairs street and railroad crossings.
• Complies with all company and railroad safety rules, practices and regulations.
General/Other Responsibilities and Duties
• Digs holes and trenches.
• Repair fence.
• Sorts track material for loading and unloading.
• Cleans tracks and clears ice and snow from tracks and switch boxes.
• Lubricates machines, changes oil and fills hydraulic reservoirs to specified levels.
• Cuts brush and vegetation from the right-of-way.
• Snow Removal of alignment and OMSF Facility.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned and work with other departments (Signal Maintenance, OCS/TPSS Maintenance, BSST Building Maintenance).
• Alignment housekeeping.
What will you need to succeed?
Qualifications
• Experience with track installation, maintenance and repair is an asset.
• Ability to understand verbal and written instructions, both general and technical.
• Problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Basic math skills.
• Good verbal skills to communicate and coordinate with crew and managers.
• Basic computer skills (word, excel).
• DZ driver's license is an asset.
• Machine operation experiences an asset.
• Able and willing to work rotating shifts to support a 24/7/365 operation
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
• Works outdoors and able to be exposed to all weather conditions including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
• Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, lifts, bends, and moves objects up to 60 pounds on uneven terrain.
• Exposed to loud noise.
• Exposed to live track/trains and high voltage.
• Ability to work rotating shifts as we are a 24/7 coverage system, and to work On-Call and Emergency Shifts.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to maintain concentration and mental alertness in a variety of situations
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
