Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Detox Ward team at Neath Port Talbot Hospital. The ward is an inpatient detoxification service providing care and treatment to adults experiencing substance dependence and withdrawal, many of whom present with complex physical and mental health needs.
We are seeking a compassionate and committed Healthcare Support Worker who is passionate about delivering high quality, person-centred care to a vulnerable patient group. Previous experience within a healthcare setting is desirable, particularly within mental health, substance use, or inpatient environments.
The Detox Ward is supported by a well-established multidisciplinary team, including a Ward Manager, Registered Nurses, Pharmacist, Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist and third sector partners. The team works collaboratively to support patients through safe detoxification, stabilisation, and engagement in recovery-focused care.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting patients with activities of daily living, therapeutic engagement, enhanced observation, and maintaining a safe and supportive ward environment. This role is ideal for someone who is caring, resilient, and committed to supporting patients through a challenging but transformative stage of their recovery journey.
Main duties of the job Work as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective and person-centred care to patients undergoing detoxification, under the support and supervision of a registered healthcare professional. Undertake personal care and delegated clinical care activities with minimal supervision, in line with individual care plans, withdrawal management needs, and the HEIW All Wales Guidelines for Delegation. Support the monitoring of patients' physical and mental health during detox, promptly reporting changes in condition, risks, or concerns to the registered healthcare professional. Maintain a safe, therapeutic and hygienic ward environment in accordance with infection prevention and control policies and health and safety procedures. Contribute to the support, teaching and supervision of students, new starters and junior staff within the ward area. Fulfil all duties in accordance with Health Board/Trust values, policies and procedures, and the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales.
