We are seeking a committed Specialty Doctor to join our multi-disciplinary team atTaith Newydd, Low Secure Unit, Glanrhyd Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to provide high-quality psychiatric care for adults with complex mental health needs, often detained under the Mental Health Act.
Working under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will contribute to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illness, and develop Care and Treatment Plans in line with the Mental Health (Wales) Measure. You will participate in ward rounds, risk assessments, and clinical governance activities, ensuring patient safety and recovery-focused care.

Post is to commence after 17th June 2026 on a permanent basis. This is a basic 10 session contract - Normal working days only - no on call commitment.
Main duties of the job
Join a dynamic multi-disciplinary team in a secure, closed environment caring for adults with complex mental health needs, often detained under the Mental Health Act. You'll assess, diagnose, and treat inpatients, contributing to individualised recovery pathways aimed at community reintegration.
Main Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality psychiatric care through assessments, medication management, MDT ward rounds, and risk formulation.
Develop and implement tailored care and discharge plans.
Collaborate with OT, nursing, psychology, social work, and external agencies.
Contribute to clinical governance, audits, teaching, and service improvement initiatives.
Person Specification - Essential:
Fully registered with GMC, with substantial psychiatric experience.
MRCPsych or equivalent OR SAS qualification.
Experience in mental health rehabilitation and risk management.
Confidence working in a locked rehab setting.

Job description Job responsibilities
The Specialty Doctor will provide high-quality psychiatric care for adults with severe and enduring mental illness within Taith Newydd. Working under Consultant supervision, you will undertake assessments, diagnosis, and treatment, develop Care and Treatment Plans under the Mental Health (Wales) Measure, and participate in MDT ward rounds, risk assessments, and discharge planning. Responsibilities include physical health monitoring, medication management, clinical governance, audit, and teaching. You will adhere to GMC Good Medical Practice, Caldicott principles, and legal frameworks including the Mental Health Act. Opportunities for CPD, research, and service development are available.
Essential:
Full GMC registration and license to practise
24 years post-registration psychiatric experience
Knowledge of Mental Health Act and Wales Measure
Strong communication and MDT skills
Desirable:

Full GMC Registration Primary MBBS or equivalent Certification or instructor status in ATLS shall have completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
