POST OF: CONSULTANT IN PAEDIATRIC ONCOLOGY
A whole-time substantive post as Consultant in Paediatric Oncology is available now at the Children's Hospital Oxford.
The post is for 10.0 programmed activities (10 PAs).
The postholder will work alongside the current two paediatric oncologists and three paediatric haematologists.

Main duties of the job
To join the existing members of the Paediatric Haematology/Oncology team in providing a regional service for children with cancer or haematological disorders and work with team members in providing an on-call service covering a 1 in 6/7 rota. The postholder's duties will be primarily at the Children's Hospital Oxford (CHOx), located in the John Radcliffe (JR) Hospital, but it is a condition of the appointment that the postholder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations and outreach clinics.The post holder will participate in a 1 in 6/7 "Consultant Of the Week" system, providing cross cover for in-patient activity, dealing with new referrals, initial diagnostic work-up, planning and delivery of treatment and care.
Each consultant has a number of areas of interest/responsibility within the service depending on interest and experience. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be responsible for the management of patients with solid and CNS tumours, aged 0 - 19 years and also lead the neuroblastoma and /or sarcoma service with involvement in developing the TYA service.
About us
The Oxford Paediatric and Adolescent Haematology/Oncology unit provides a world class, holistic service for patients within the Thames Valley Cancer Alliance, consisting of Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Swindon. The unit provides all solid tumour oncology, neuro-oncology, malignant and benign haematology services for the Alliance, apart from allogeneic transplantation. The Oxford PTC unit has Joint Accreditation Committee-ISCT & EBMT (JACIE) accreditation for the administration of high dose chemotherapy with autologous stem cell rescue. Patients requiring allogeneic transplantation are referred to Bristol/London services. The unit provides supraregional support for haemophilia and Haemoglobinopathy services, covering Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire and Wiltshire.
The Children's Hospital Oxford (CHOX) at the John Radcliffe Hospital (JRH) Campus is the Principal Treatment Centre (PTC) providing tertiary haematology/oncology services for designated Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Units (POSCUs) in Swindon, Reading, Milton Keynes, High Wycombe/Stoke Mandeville and Slough (Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospital). The unit has excellent relationships with paediatricians in the POSCUs. Outreach clinics for Paediatric Oncology and Haematology are held at each of the POSCUs.

The postholder will continue to develop innovative models to ensure the ongoing care of patients under the age of 16 years and continue the harmonisation of transition to the TYA/adult services, linking closely with the well established late effects service for young people post 16. It is also anticipated that the postholder will also work with the Oxford onco-fertility team to support a rapidly growing national service, delivering a service currently unique in England.

Full GMC with Licence to practice oMRCPCH by examination or equivalent On the GMC's Specialist Register OR within six months of CCT at time of scheduled interview MBBS or equivalent MRCPCH or equivalent Appropriate training in tertiary paediatric haematology/oncology centre APLS or equivalent course in date Trained to Level 3 safeguarding Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT Ideally the CCT or its recognised equivalent should be in Paediatrics

Experience Essential
At middle grade level up to consultant Comprehensive training in Paediatric oncology at tertiary level Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems. Is able to demonstrate having achieved the competencies equivalent to the Highest Specialist Paediatric Training CSAC can advise here. As the attached Representative you will be a member of the relevant subspeciality Valid APLS and NLS Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training
