Introduction
Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a Obstetric and Gynaecology Specialty Doctor. This job is an excellent opportunity for experienced doctors (RCOG Entrustability level 4 or above) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The successful candidate will be working the middle grade tier [specialist registrar level].
There will be dedicated sessions in special interests depending upon the interests of the candidate and service commitments. Apart from special interests, the successful candidate will be expected to have sessions covering labour ward, gynaecological, antenatal clinics and theatre sessions. There will be opportunity to develop and be supported in doing office gynaecology / urogynaecology / colposcopy / ANDU / EPAU. The successful candidate will be supported and encouraged to take RCOG ATSM/SITM to develop further in their career.
Depending on the post holders experience, there may be an opportunity to perform theatre lists and diagnostic procedures with consultant back up to help achieve the 18 week target.
Successful candidates are expected to actively participate in ward rounds, teaching/audit/research and administrative work. They could perform independent colposcopy clinics [subject to accreditation].
This is a 12-month fixed-term contract with the option to be made permanent.
Main duties of the job
On-call
The post-holder needs to fulfil the RCOG entrustability level 4 or above and will participate in providing second on-call Obstetrics and Gynaecology emergency cover, which is a full shift system between 8.30am and 9.00pm on a 1:8 rota, with prospective cover.. In addition, these posts contribute to a 1:8 split 4 and 3 nights (8.45pm to 9.00am) shift system. This post makes the middle grade duties compliant with the EWTD for 48 hours.
ObstetricsThe Obstetric service provides a comprehensive local service, and the team manage all midwifery services in the hospital and the community. Progress towards improved continuity of care has been considerable and the development of the role of midwifery staff has been significant. The unit has been an early adopter of the SBL care bundles and is progressing with SBLV3. The unit is in the top ten nationally for its detection rate for growth restriction.
There are multidisciplinary specialist clinics such as Medical Disorders, Fetal Medicine, Perinatal Mental Health, Preterm Clinic etc.
Gynaecology There are well established services providing, in addition to General Gynaecology, accredited specialised clinics including Colposcopy, Urogynaecology, 2 week wait Cancer referral, Hysteroscopy, Vulval, EPAU and Termination services. There is a new Gynaecology Day Assessment unit providing service over 5 days during the week.
