Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, experienced and HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist to work alongside our senior team in the Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratory at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as laboratory training lead.
You will have significant experience in Haematology and Blood Transfusion and will be required to work as part of the senior team within the Haematology and Blood Transfusion Laboratory, managing a range of laboratory procedures which contribute to the diagnosis, treatment, and clinical care of the patient. Training will be provided.
The post holder will help manage the team preparing specimens for testing, including running automated analysers and / or preparation of blood films for analysis. Maintenance of records and files will be an important part of your role but the main focus of this role will be as training officer to support training and development in the department.
The ideal candidate will have a close working relationship with Pathology scientific staff.
They will ensure adherence to the departmental policies, procedures and methods.
They will be committed to formally maintaining their skills and knowledge by appropriate training and self-education.
The post holder will be competent to work independently in all areas of the laboratory and be able to work as an autonomous Biomedical Scientist.
The post holder will have significant evidenced experience of training others in a Haematology context.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Biomedical Scientist - Haematology & Blood Transfusion is responsible, for the day-to-day operation of the laboratory.
The post-holder is responsible for a team of Associate Practitioners, and registered Biomedical Scientists.
The post holder will be responsible for providing a high-quality service that builds on the standards defined by UKAS and the MHRA. They will be expected to develop and maintain close working relationships with all grades of staff, scientific, nursing and medical to ensure the effective delivery of clinical trials and research studies across all Trust sites. They will work closely with senior staff within the department and clinical team and registered BMS and associate practitioners

Person Specification
Training and qualification Essential
HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist Masters degree or equivalent to give the required level of specialist Blood Sciences knowledge.
Desirable
Specialist portfolio in Haematology and Blood transfusion or BBTS qualification IBMS training the trainers/examiners course attendance
Experience and Knowledge Essential
Working in a laboratory as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist band 7 Experience of taking candidates through full process of IBMS portfolio acquisition
Desirable
Previous line management or team leading experience Previous training officer role
Skills and ability Essential
Ability to organise own workload and that of staff under supervision and able to manage time Calm, well organised and self-reliant, and able to work under pressure Evidenced ability to come alongside and compassionately develop staff who are finding training challenging

Able to prepare presentations as part of the laboratory training programme.
