Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Rheumatology with an interest in autoimmune connective tissue diseases (0.75PA) at Addenbrooke's Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a substantive post to commence as soon as possible.

Main duties of the job

The candidate will need to be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Rheumatology or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. The candidate would be expected to be able to provide evidence for interest and experience in Metabolic Bone Disease. Job description Job responsibilities

The Rheumatology service in Cambridge is based at the Addenbrookes Hospital site with satellite clinics at Ely, Saffron Walden and Newmarket. There is an established early arthritis service with clinics at Addenbrookes and Newmarket Hospitals, connective tissue disease service (at Addenbrookes Hospital) and metabolic bone disease unit. There is also anestablished rheumatology research unit.The Rheumatology team consists of eleven Rheumatology Consultants, four CTD/Lupus Specialist Nurses eight General Rheumatology Practitioners, three Metabolic Bone Nurse specialists and four Rheumatology Research Nurses, as well as two Deanery Registrars and a Clinical Fellow. The Addenbrookes CTD team play a leading role in the Eastern Network for Rare Autoimmune Disease (ENRAD). The team have close links with other specialities such as renal medicine and vasculitis, thoracic medicine (Addenbrookes), interstitial lung disease service (Royal Papworth), clinical immunology, ophthalmology, cardiology, gastroenterology, hepatology, infectious diseases, neurology, haematology (especially for patients with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome or HLH), ENT, maxillofacial and dermatology. The adjacent Royal Papworth Hospital includes a specialist Pulmonary Hypertension centre and an ICU with ECMO capability. There are combined chest/rheumatology clinics and several established MDT meetings. The service is supported by an excellent team of Musculoskeletal Radiologists and also Pathologists with expertise in vasculitis and myositis. Addenbrookes Hospital has a dynamic Paediatric Rheumatology department and regional network (CHEERS), which is particularly important for transitional care.

The main duties of this post are to include: Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of secondary and tertiary service level autoimmune connective tissue disease. Teaching and training of resident staff, medical students in autoimmune CTD. To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit. To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
