Job summary
There is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Staff Nurse role within the established Ward 111 team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering, monitoring, and evaluating high standards of patient care, while actively contributing to the development and implementation of innovative clinical and administrative practices to further enhance the excellent service currently provided.
The post holder will work across both day and night shifts, undertaking a key leadership role within the team. They will act as a visible role model, be good communicator, provide guidance, support, and supervision to junior staff. The post holder will have completed tracheostomy competencies and completed the National tracheostomy safety project E learning to ensure that they can mange the care of an airway. Furthermore have clinical skills to monitor the integrity of a flap.
Main duties of the job
The candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the ward/department in the absence of the Ward Leader, ensuring that a high-quality, safe and cost-effective service is delivered. The successful candidate will be expected t deliver and manage planned care for a designated group of patients with minimal supervision. Undertake comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based, individualised patient care. Provide support, guidance, and clinical advice to both registered and unregistered staff in the delivery of patient care. Accurately monitor, record, and interpret clinical observations, taking prompt and appropriate action where required. Be able to undertake audits and develop new ways of working to improve the service for our patients.

An ability to communicate sensitive information about patients to other members of the health care team and with the consent of the patient to their relatives.
Demonstration of excellent communication skills when dealing with difficult situations is also required. The post holder will ensure that effective communication is maintained, especially with patients who may have altered speech due to their airway status.
Clear and concise patient handover to other members of the team, the wider MDT forms an essential part of the role. Escalating concerns in a patients condition to senior members of the nursing team and medical staff.
An excellent relationship with all wards and departments is essential. Ensuring the senior nursing and medical teams are always updated. An essential part of the role is communicating in a professional manner with all patients and visitors to the ward.
Promote equality and diversity ensuring that the individual needs of the patients and their families are recognised. Take personal responsibility for ensuring communication relating to patient discharge is accurate. It is expected that ALL employees of the Trust will take part inthe appraisal process each year with the first appraisal taking place within the first 6 months from appointment.
The post holder will be expected to undertake internal day and night rotation. The post holder will be expected to plan and implement a variety management plans for, ENT, Max Fax, Plastics, breast and ophthalmology and the other areas of planned care that include Gynaecology, Urology and vascular patients under the guidance and support of thesenior nursing team. Provide care within designated government and NHS Trust guidelines, aligned with the National Tracheostomy Safety Project. ensuring safety and best practice.
The post holder will be able to demonstrate advanced nursing skills and knowledge in managing patients with tracheostomies and laryngectomies, including emergency scenarios.Including recognize and respond to complications, such as tube displacement, bleeding, infection, or airway obstruction. Furthermore, the post holder will be competent in themanagement of surgical and reconstructive tissue flaps.

Experience in supervising junior staff, nursing students, and healthcare assistants. Confident, autonomous decision making and problem-solving during emergencies or critical situations The capability to act as a role model, run shifts, handle patient flow, and provide support to the Ward Leader Tracheotomy skills
Communication Essential
Excellent communication to effectively liaise with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and carers.
