Job summary The Band 7 Pharmacist role is responsible for supporting the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of outpatient pharmacy services within a hospital setting. Acting as the Responsible Pharmacist when required, the post holder will lead day-to-day operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and best practice guidance. The role involves overseeing medicines management processes, including dispensing, storage, controlled drug management, and patient counselling, while also contributing to service development and performance improvement. Working closely with clinical teams, prescribers, and pharmacy staff, the pharmacist plays a key role in optimising patient outcomes and ensuring high-quality patient-centred care.
Main duties of the job This is a dynamic and patient-focused role for a qualified pharmacist to deliver high-quality outpatient pharmacy services. You will be responsible for the safe dispensing of medicines, providing clinical advice, and supporting patients to optimise their treatment outcomes. The role also includes supervising and developing pharmacy staff, maintaining regulatory compliance, and contributing to service improvement initiatives. Working in a fast-paced healthcare environment, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure efficient service delivery while maintaining excellent standards of patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide safe, efficient, and effective outpatient pharmacy services.
- Act as the Responsible Pharmacist, ensuring compliance with GPhC and DoH requirements.
- Lead and support pharmacy staff, serving as a role model for excellence.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with prescribers and clinical teams.
- Contribute to clinical services, medicines management, and operational efficiency.
- Work collaboratively with the Pharmacy Manager and Superintendent Pharmacist.

Shift Pattern: Based at Kings College Hospital London. Our opening times are Monday - Friday 8am - 9pm, Weekends and Bank Holidays 9am - 5pm. Working hours are 37.5 hours per week to meet the needs of the Business on a Rota basis.

Qualifications Essential
Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and ability to act as a Responsible Pharmacist Strong understanding of medicines management, including dispensing, storage, controlled drugs, and patient counselling Knowledge of relevant legislation, professional standards, and regulatory requirements within pharmacy practice Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams Ability to prioritise workload, manage time effectively, and work in a fast-paced healthcare environment Leadership capability with experience supervising and supporting pharmacy teams Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care and continuous professional development
Desirable
Postgraduate clinical qualification or evidence of advanced clinical knowledge Experience working across different pharmacy settings or within hospital/outpatient services Experience contributing to service development, quality improvement, or business performance initiatives Understanding of prescribing practices in primary and secondary care settings Experience supporting training, mentoring, or development of pharmacy staff Ability to contribute to financial management, including stock control and cost-effective prescribing
