Job summary

This is a unique opportunity to help shape and develop a brand new service!

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated Band 6 to join our newly established Ambulatory Care Unit, delivering Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) and specialist cancer care to patients on the Oncology, Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) ambulatory pathway.

This innovative service has been designed to meet the needs of the patients, providing treatment and supportive care as well as specialist reviews, in an ambulatory setting that enables patients to receive high quality care, whilst maintaining as much normality in their daily lives as possible.

Operating 7 days a week from 08:00 - 20:00, this new unit will play a pivotal role in transforming cancer services within BHOC, by supporting, reducing unnecessary hospital admissions and improving patient experience.

We also have exciting opportunities within Chemotherapy Day Unit (D502) if preferred. We can offer development opportunities as a rotational post between Chemotherapy Day unit and Ambulatory Care for anyone with existing SACT experience to develop their knowledge and skills within Haematology and oncology.

Main duties of the job

As a band 6 nurse you will be a key clinical leader within the unit, working alongside a multidisciplinary team to establish best practice, influence service development and create a positive culture focused on excellence in patient care.

Lead and co-ordinate care within Specialist Ambulatory Care setting Deliver and oversee SACT administration for Oncology, Haematology and BMT patients. Contribute to service innovation and quality improvement initiatives Support, mentor and develop junior nursing colleagues. Work closely with supervisory sister, medical, pharmacy and AHP teams to provide seamless patient centred care. Support patients who might arrive unwell, or become unwell during their ambulatory visit. Liaise with pathway navigator regarding inpatient beds.

Knowledge and Experience Essential

Qualifications and Training Essential
