About this role

Job summary

Are you an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Occupational Therapist ready to take the next step in your career? We are seeking a dedicated Band 6 Occupational Therapistto join our expanding team.

In line with the national "Experts at Hand" (EAH) initiative, this role focuses on a highly responsive, embedded model of therapy and support. Instead of working in isolation, you will act as the accessible clinical expert directly within educational environments. You will collaborate with teachers, families, speech & language therapists and educational psychologists to provide early, localised intervention for children with Occupational Therapy needs.

You will work alongside a Highly Specialist B7 therapist and B4 assistant practitioners to support the development of the EAH. You will support the development of the service and work to embed targeted interventions and coaching teaching staff directly inside mainstream classrooms.

Main duties of the job

Whilst working as an autonomous practitioner in the community, within the county of Herefordshire, plan and organise own caseload according to the needs of the children and the service.

To use evidence based standardised and non-standardised assessment tools with children, including observations in the most appropriate settings for the child/young person, in order to establish levels of functional ability and disability and to inform your practice and intervention.

To agree child focused aims, goals and objectives for all OT intervention.

To design individual therapeutic treatment plans, for children to be carried out either by you or delegated to Occupational Therapy support workers, families, carers or school staff.

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications Essential

Professional Qualification to degree level or equivalent in Occupational Therapy HCPC Registration Post Graduate specialist qualification/significant post graduate experience

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Essential

Broad and specialist knowledge of relevant patient conditions and therapy interventions Demonstration of knowledge of core and specialist Therapy skills Evidence of ongoing CPD in relevant area Experience of multi-disciplinary communication, assessments and record keeping Computer Skills including word processing and e-mail Able to make independent, sound, clinical decisions and problem solve Able to manage busy case load and prioritise Ability to work autonomously using specialist knowledge, skills and initiative in sometimes complex situations acknowledging role boundaries

Experience Essential

NHS or equivalent experience e.g. Children's acute or community or community services Experience of using/fitting adaptive equipment

Other Factors Essential

Ability to fulfil the travel requirements of post Able to meet physical & moving and handling requirements of post. I.e. re-positioning of a patient, use of moving & handling equipment, approved manual physical movement practices of patient Able to deal sensitively and safely with blood and bodily fluids
