Job summary
We are looking for a speciality doctor grade psychiatrist to join our friendly, cohesive multidisciplinary team. You will be joining a well-functioning team whose workforce is stable and well-appointed to.
The post holders main role is to provide clinical input and support team members of the Community Mental Health Team which provide mental health services to adult patients of working age (18-65) in the North Devon Torridge area.
North Devon is a great place to live and work, with an outstanding natural environment (beaches and surf), great schools, and great links with the regional city of Exeter.
This is a full time, in-person, community-based post (though interested LTFT candidates will also be considered). The post holder will be mainly based at the Abbotsvale at Bideford Hospital, Bideford where clinic and admin space and secretarial support will be provided. You will be working alongside a Consultant Psychiatrist and a Nurse Specialist.
The post holder would be supported to construct a personal development plan with the support of the line manager (consultant supervising the post holder), and will have dedicated weekly SPA time, study leave and funding to support continuing professional development.
It is a fixed term post for 24 months.
Main duties of the job
The Community Mental Health Team provides assessment and on-going treatment for patients with severe and enduring mental illness and complex needs. The post holder is expected to be actively involved in assessments, considering diagnosis and creating treatment plans based on evidence-based guidelines.
A key component of the role is to add additional expertise in the physical health assessment required for the safe initiation of psychotropic medication such as anti-psychotics and lithium, and for subsequent annual reviews for those that need them. The post holder would be willing to register as a prescriber for CPMS.
The post holder is expected to work in close liaison and collaboratively with other services/agencies. The post holder would be a key member of the multi-disciplinary team,and attend the MDT meetings to assist with clinical decision making including on-going plans and discharge arrangements.

Qualifications Essential
MB BS or equivalent GMC registration. Experience in General Psychiatry

Membership or Affiliates of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent. Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
Experience Essential
Has completed at least four years full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of these years need to be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or the doctor has equivalent experience and competencies.
Desirable
Experience at SHO level or above of working in the field of Psychiatry.
Clinical Skills and Knowledge Essential
Excellent clinical skills in interviewing and physical and psychological assessment of patients. Writing comprehensive, clear medical notes. Ability to manage crises and act independently.
