About this role

Job summary

We are looking for a part time Health Care Assistant with a minimum of 2 years experience working in a hospital or GP setting providing clinical not personal care. (9 - 12 hours per week) - Work pattern Thursday full day and alternative Saturday mornings.

Possible ad-hoc additional hours to cover team absence.

We are also looking for a fully qualified part time Phlebotomist for 12 - 18 hours per week. The HCA and Phlebotomist roles could be combined (if you hold both qualifications and experience) to provide up to around 25 - 30 hours per week. Work pattern will be Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and alternate Saturday mornings.

If you are your household are patients at Hightown Surgery if appointed you and your household would be required to register at another GP surgery to retain confidentiality.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

To support the practice nursing and administrative teams in the delivery of clinical and administrative services, working as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.

Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Main clinical duties:

NHS Health Checks Phlebotomy/VenepunctureSupport practice nurses with health promotion programmes including smoking and weight managementSupport practice nurses with management of chronic disease clinics.Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately. ECG recording Basic urinalysis and completion of microbiology forms and specimen handling as necessary. Learning Disability Health Checks To assist PNs with data inputting before the diabetic/CHD clinic, e.g., BP, weight, smoking status. Eligible to work in the UK Live within short commute of North Oxfordshire Driving licence and access to own vehicle Care Certificate or appropriate NVQ qualification Phlebotomy trained. Recent practical experience working in a similar role and competent in the aspects of the role listed in the job description.

Qualifications Essential

*Phlebotomy trained *Health care qualification BTEC or NVQ(level 3 or 4). *HCA Care Certificate *Minimum of 3 years experience working as a Healthcare Assistant in primary or secondary care providing clinical care (not personal care) *Must have own transport and full driving licence as occasional home visits/care home visits will be required. *Must have right to work in the UK *Must undertake DBS check *Must be able to provide evidence of immunisation history to include Diphtheria, Tetanus, Polio, MMR (x2 doses), BCG, Hepatitis B, Varicella.

Desirable

*Primary care experience *Confident user of EMIS/Optum *Vaccination certification *Ability to record accurate clinical notes *Ability to follow clinical policy and procedures *Able to undertake vaccinations *Understanding of infection prevention and control measures *Able to perform venepuncture *Able to under the principals of ECG's *Experience of wound care/removal of sutures and staples *Ability to undertake patient medicals, including height, weight, BP, pulse and BMI etc *Understanding of safeguarding adults and children *Understanding of chaperone procedure *Understanding the requirements for PSDs and associated policy *Demonstrate personal accountability, emotional resilience and work well under pressure. *Ability to follow legal, ethical and clinical policy and procedure. *Knowledge of and ability to work to key policies and procedures. *Ability to work as a team member and autonomously. *Flexible, cooperative and motivated.
