Job summary
We are looking for a part time Phlebotomist with a minimum of 2 years experience working in a hospital or GP setting providing clinical not personal care. (12 - 16 hours per week) - Work pattern Tuesday and Thursdays full and some Saturday mornings.
Possible ad-hoc additional hours to cover team absence.
We are also looking for a fully qualified part time Healthcare Assistant for 1 day per week plus alternative Saturday mornings. The HCA and Phlebotomist roles could be combined (if you hold both relevant qualifications and experience) to provide up to around 25 - 30 hours per week. Work pattern will be Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and alternate Saturday mornings.
If you are your household are patients at Hightown Surgery if appointed you and your household would be required to register at another GP surgery to retain confidentiality.

Main duties of the job
To support the practice nursing and administrative teams in the delivery of clinical and administrative services, working as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.
Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the Phlebotomist will support the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Main clinical duties:
Obtain patient consent for the collection of blood sample. Perform venepuncture in accordance with practice protocolsMaintain accurate patient records on the clinical IT system (EMIS/Optum) and ensure specimens are ready for onward transportation.The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples.Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner. Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters. Being an integral part of the general practice team. Acting as a chaperone as required. Ensuring clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practices IPC policy. Working within national and local protocols where these exist. Supporting vaccination clinics Be aware of duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on safeguarding adults and safeguarding children. Qualifications Essential
*Phlebotomy trained *Minimum of 3 years experience working in primary or secondary care providing clinical care (not personal care) *Must have own transport and full driving licence as occasional home visits/care home visits will be required. *Must have right to work in the UK *Must undertake DBS check *Must be able to provide evidence of immunisation history to include Diphtheria, Tetanus, Polio, MMR (x2 doses), BCG, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
