Job summary

At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time band 4 Gynaecology Cancer Navigator to join the Maternity, Neonatal and Gynaecology Directorate to support in meeting NHS national cancer targets.

Team building skills are imperative, as is the need to be self motivated with the ability to use your own initiative as when this is necessary.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for maintaining accurate patient tracking systems, identifying delays in the pathway, and escalating concerns appropriately to support timely intervention. They will play a key role in ensuring patients progress efficiently from referral through to diagnosis and treatment, in line with national cancer waiting time standards, including the 28, 31 and 62-day targets.

Working closely with Consultants, Advanced Nurse Practitioners/Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS), MDT coordinators, and administrative teams, the post holder will provide high-quality administrative and pathway support, maintaining oversight of patient journeys and ensuring effective communication across all stakeholders.

Job description Job responsibilities

Support the tracking and coordination of patients on suspected and confirmed gynaecology cancer pathways, ensuring timely progression in line with national cancer standards (28, 31 and 62-day targets). Maintain and update patient tracking systems, ensuring all pathway information is accurate, complete, and up to date. Identify patients at risk of delay or breach and escalate concerns to appropriate clinical or managerial staff in a timely manner. Act as a point of contact for patients, relatives, carers, and healthcare professionals, providing administrative support and signposting to appropriate services. Liaise with Consultants, CNS teams, MDT coordinators, GPs, and other internal and external departments to ensure effective coordination of appointments, diagnostics, and treatment. Assist with RTT validation for skin patients to ensure pathways are accurate and correctly recorded. Monitor and support data quality across relevant Trust systems, ensuring compliance with Trust policies and national guidance. Provide updates on patient pathways and highlight any risks or issues to senior staff. Work flexibly to support service needs, maintaining a high standard of organisation, professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity at all times
