About this role

Job summary

Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit Speciality Doctor to work on our Soss Moss Unit.

This post involves contributing to medical input for two low secure mental health inpatient services on the same site (Saddlebridge Recovery Centre, 15 beds, and the Alderley Unit, 11 beds).

The post-holder will work with the consultant psychiatrist who covers each unit, within the context of the two multidisciplinary teams. Consultant supervision will be provided at least every two weeks. The postholder will have full access to study leave as per the CWP policy

Main duties of the job

The post is inpatient only and based at the Soss Moss Site, Chelford Road, Nether Alderley, Cheshire SK10 4UJ. Soss Moss Site comprises two units: Saddlebridge Recovery Centre and the Alderley Unit. Saddlebridge is a 15-bedded male low secure unit, and Alderley is an 11-bedded male low secure unit. These units form part of the regional Lead Provider Collaborative for secure commissioning known as PROSPECT. Both units provide inpatient psychiatric rehabilitation in a low secure environment.

All patients are detained under the Mental Health Act, with a pathway of around two years. Referrals are received from prisons, psychiatric intensive care units and acute mental health wards, and as step-downs from medium secure hospitals. Referred patients are assessed under a formal process and acceptance for admission is via the PROSPECT LPC low secure admissions panel. The majority of admissions are elective.

Each unit has its own multidisciplinary care team comprising a consultant psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, occupational therapists, nursing team and clinical secretary. The site as a whole shares a social worker and Assistant Practitioners for physical health. There is a visiting GP and specialist nurses who provide input for patients' physical health. There is also (at present) one CT resident doctor based at Saddlebridge Recovery Centre. Independent advocacy is available to all patients and is provided by Disability Positive.
