We are looking for an Advanced Biomedical Scientist to join our Histology team at HCA Cyted Laboratories in Huntingdon.
This role suits an experienced Biomedical Scientist with strong tissue dissection expertise, ready to step into an advanced role within a modern, digitally led histopathology service. You will be trusted for your technical skill, judgement, and professionalism, working closely with Consultant Pathologists and colleagues to deliver consistently high quality results.

Main duties of the job
In this role, you will undertake a broad range of routine and complex histological tasks, with a strong focus on delivering high quality tissue dissection. Acting as an advanced point of reference within the laboratory, you will promote consistency, quality, and best practice in dissection techniques, supporting colleagues and maintaining high professional standards. You will oversee the management of dissection equipment and consumables, ensuring service continuity through effective stock control.
The position also involves contributing to the day to day organisation and strategic operation of the Histopathology Department, helping to meet turnaround time targets while upholding excellent patient care. Working collaboratively with Consultant Pathologists and the wider team, you will support efficient workflows and drive service improvements. Additionally, you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing ISO 15189 compliance through quality assurance and continuous improvement activities, while supporting the training, development, and competency assessment of colleagues within the team.

Job description Job responsibilities
Undertake routine and complex histological work, with a particular focus on high quality tissue dissection
Act as an advanced point of reference for dissection practice, supporting consistency, quality, and best practice within the laboratory
Oversee the management of dissection related equipment and consumables, ensuring continuity of service and maintaining appropriate stock levels within the department.
Contribute to the effective day to day organisation and strategic operation of the Histopathology Department, supporting the delivery of departmental turnaround time (TAT) targets and ensuring a consistently high standard of service delivery and patient care.
Work closely with Consultant Pathologists and colleagues to support efficient workflows and service improvements
Contribute to maintaining and enhancing ISO 15189 compliance through quality assurance and continuous improvement activity
Support the training, development, and competency assessment of colleagues within the Histopathology team
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Experience working in an ISO 15189 accredited Histology laboratory Demonstrable experience in tissue dissection, with DEP desirable Membership of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Confidence to work autonomously, support colleagues, and contribute positively to service development
Qualifications Essential
HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
