Job summary

We are looking for enthusiastic, highly motivated and committed individuals to join a well-established Early Intervention Service. The Lancashire and South Cumbria Early Intervention Service (EIS) specialises in working with individuals aged 14 and upwards who are at risk of, or currently experiencing a first episode of psychosis.

We are in an exciting position to be able to recruit a CBT therapist / Clinical Psychologist to join our well-established Early Intervention Service, the post is based within The Bay EIS. The Bay EIS operates via a hub and spoke model of care covering Kendal, Barrow, Morecambe and Lancaster localities. The successful candidate would be able to choose which locality they preferred as their base.

The post will be within The Bay EIS covering the bay areas of North Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve providing a qualified specialist cognitive behavioural assessment and therapy service along with family interventions / family work to our service users and their carers, along with providing advice and consultation on client's psychological care working within the policies, procedures and protocols for the service.

The successful applicants will be working alongside our existing therapists within the multi-disciplinary team. We predominantly use a CBT and CBT for psychosis (CBTp) framework with our clients, who have either experienced a first episode of psychosis or who have been assessed as being at high risk of developing psychosis.

Successful applicants will be supported to develop their skills in working with this client group, including being eligible to apply for the CBT "top-up" training course (if available).

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Qualification in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to post graduate diploma level or equivalent Professional qualification e.g. RMN, Social Worker Full practitioner accreditation with the British Association for Behavioural and cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)

Knowledge Essential

Knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology

Experience Essential

Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients across a range of care settings. Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.

Skills and Abilities Essential

Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
