Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse Secondment Opportunity - The Woodlands Suite
We are delighted to offer an exciting Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse secondment opportunity within The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.
The Woodlands Suite is a 20-bedded inpatient ward providing care for patients undergoing both elective and emergency orthopaedic treatment, including primary and revision joint replacement surgery, management of post-operative wound infections, and private patient care.
As a Sister/Charge Nurse, you will play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality, holistic care to a diverse patient population with complex musculoskeletal, spinal, and oncology needs. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to enhance the patient experience, drive continuous improvement, and ensure the delivery of safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care.
This role also provides opportunities to work across other specialist areas within the Trust, supporting patient care while broadening your clinical knowledge, leadership skills, and experience in a range of orthopaedic services.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily smooth running of the ward from admission to discharge. They will ensure safe care staffing standards are adhered to with safety, infection control, governance, audits, staff support and development addressed on a daily basis.
The successful candidate will co-ordinate patient care, attend ward rounds, liase with support teams and therapists and communicate effectively with all members of the ward team.

Job description Job responsibilities
To assist the ward manager/senior charge nurse in the responsibility of the delivery, standards and management of patient care on the ward or department. To provide guidance, support and clinical leadership to the clinical team, while working closely with Senior Sister/ senior charge nurse toensure effective use of ward and departmental resources. The Band 6 will be expected to deputise for the Senior Sister/ Senior Charge Nurse in their absence and to support and educate junior staff within the clinical area.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Registered nurse with current NMC registration Diploma /degree level nursing qualification. Willingness to complete post graduate orthopaedic nursing course
Desirable
Evidence of post graduate professional development
Experience Essential
Substantial/Significant experience required as a Band 5 staff nurse Evidence of continued professional development
