About this role

Job summary

We are seeking a permanent Paediatric Speciality Doctor in Gastroenterology to join our expanding team at Staffordshire Children's Hospital at Royal Stoke. This is a full-time substantive post (10 PAs) commitment to the general paediatric acute rota, including cover for the Children's Assessment Unit (CAU) and inpatient wards. The postholder will contribute to the development of the Paediatric Gastroenterology service, support general paediatrics, and participate in teaching, audit, and service improvement.

Main duties of the job

Provide specialist care in paediatric gastroenterology, including outpatient clinics and inpatient consultations.Including IBD, coeliac disease and complex nutrition.

Provide support to local CAMHS services with nutrition-related disorders, including Eating disorders, ARFID and Disordered Eating.

Have the opportunity to develop endoscopy skills and GI physiology skills.Support the CAU and inpatient wards during service weeks.

Engage in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement.Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.Participate in service development and innovation.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Fully registered with the GMC BLS/PLS/PiLS Trained APLS or PALS provider

Desirable

A post-graduated qualification e.g MRCPCH, MSc, DCH, DCCH, MBA or other equivalent diplomas.

Clinical Experience Essential

Minimum 4 years (or equivalent) postgraduate training, two of which must have been in paediatrics and 1 year of experience within paediatric gastroenterology. Ability to assess and treat the sick child Ability to perform practical procedures used in general, paediatrics including venepuncture, cannulation, lumbar puncture, long line insertion

Desirable

Experience in paediatric endoscopy Experience of managing patients in paediatric gastroenterology outpatients Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively e.g. report writing; thesis Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and make decisions Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team Experience of managing acutely ill children

Academic Achievements Essential

Willingness to take part in teaching Evidence of continuing professional development Experience of supervising junior medical staff Ability to teach clinical skills Participation in research or clinical audit

Desirable

Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates Demonstrated ability or experience in teaching e.g. SHO's, medical students Formal training in research or teaching Methods Conducting audit and research

Experience and understanding of clinical audit Understanding of management issues including medical discipline; clinical governance, service planning Willingness to participate in service developments

Willingness to manage e.g. project work; mentoring junior staff
